1. Jonathan Lane Adds Apology to Target of Trollhunters' Plots and Alec Peters' Ire

‘I’M NOT ASKING anyone to forgive or to forget.’ Axanar's biggest cheerleader, Jonathan Lane, and producer Alec Peters' biggest advocate appeals to opponents, including the much-maligned Sandy Greenberg (right). Photos/Facebook profiles
Reaching out. In an unexpected Facebook post Tuesday night, Axanar's and Alec Peters' biggest advocate, Jonathan Lane apologizes to Sandy Greenberg, one of Peters' most ardent and longtime critics.
  • Demands apology. Greenberg publicly doubted the sincerity of Lane's earlier apologies because Lane had focused on the Trollhunters gleeful discussion over the suicide of the father-in-law of another Axanar vocal critic, Shawn O'Halloran. Greenberg asked:
    • Blackmail, murder. “What I don’t understand, Jonathan Lane is … why Shawn and now Paul [Jenkins] get an apology and I don’t. [The Trollhunters] were talking about the blackmail and potential murder of myself.”
  • Simple apology. After citing some of the long history of what he considered inappropriate behavior by Greenberg, Lane offered:
“I will simply apologize to you right now, Sandy, as you have requested. Alec's comment about being too lazy to hire a hit man to kill you was in poor taste, and I do not support ever joking about death or murder. Likewise, any attempt to cost someone their job and/or livelihood, be it you or my wife or anyone, is never acceptable … even in jest.”

  • Apology rejected. Greenberg, who lives in the U.K., was unmoved by Lane's apology. He told AxaMonitor:
“It wasn’t really an apology to me since he did it in a Facebook group and not a message or email. … He didn’t even put it on his own [Fan Film Factor] page. … The bottom line is that it’s exactly what I expect from his prose — overly long, condescending, and self serving. We’ll see if he’s really sorry when he severs ties with Peters and removes Trollhunters as admins from his Facebook groups.”
History of acrimony. Greenberg, over the years, had been very public about his antipathy toward Peters since he, an early Axanar booster was booted from Axanar Facebook groups when he questioned the management of the never-to-be-made Axanar feature.

Added apology. Lane also apologized to another Axanar critic, Jason Kovalik, identified in Alec Peters chat logs, in which Peters said, "He needs to die, too." (Disclosure: Kovalik is a co-host with AxaMonitor's Carlos Pedraza on the Real Super Geeks podcast, which occasionally discusses Axanar.)

Reservoirs of resentment. Lane, Peters' biggest online advocate, proved a lightning rod over the weekend as members of the AxaMonitor and Star Trek Fan Productions Facebook groups tussled over the sincerity of Lane's earlier apologies and criticism of Peters' lawsuit against ex-Axanar director Paul Jenkins. Some members of both groups hold deep reservoirs of the anger and resentment toward Peters and his best-known spokesperson.

Tuesday surprise. So it came as a surprise Tuesday night when Lane apologized more. O'Halloran replied shortly after, explaining how most Axanar critics first focused on Lane rather than the other Trollhunters. No more status quo? While Lane's actions appear to constitute a big step away from Peters' dogma, some critics remain unconvinced. Time will tell. #StayTuned
  • Temporary ceasefire. O'Halloran had extended an olive branch to Lane after learning Lane and his family were afraid of him. O'Halloran assured Lane, "You do not have to worry about me, anymore. … I will not contribute to that distress any further and I’m going to request that the rest of the group follow my lead on this." (Disclosure: O'Halloran is an admin of the AxaMonitor discussion forum on Facebook, and a co-host with Carlos Pedraza of the Real Super Geeks podcast.)
    • Implied threat? Lane wondered aloud what O'Halloran meant by the term. "I really don't know how to respond to that or what [O'Halloran] is asking for. Honestly, I don't know what else I can say beyond what I have already said and done at this time. I'm out of Trollhunters. While I have heard there is a new group, I am not in it."
  • Moral compass. O'Halloran told Lane, "It’s not a coincidence that the people who were actively involved in [the Trollhunters] were forgotten about pretty quickly and the focus was directed at you. Nobody expects anything better from Alec [and the others] but, they do expect better from you, because (and I know it sounds nuts) even the detractors believe that you do have a sense of a moral compass."

2. Former Employees Get Court Hearings to Dismiss Peters' Lawsuit over Sale of Enterprise-E Model

ENTERPRISE-E The starship filming model from Star Trek: First Contact lies at the center of Axanar producer Alec Peters' latest lawsuit against former friends and employees. Image/Paramount Pictures
Motions all 'round. After threatening, "I will bury you," Axanar producer Alec Peters had his lawsuit against two of his once-loyal employees and their company challenged in a Nevada court.
  • Defendant Jarrod Hunt, a longtime employee in Peters' Propworx business, filed his own motion last week to dismiss Peters' suit contending Hunt had made off with the commission from the 2017 sale of the Enterprise-E filming model from Star Trek: First Contact, to which Peters alleged he was entitled.
    • Already litigated. The sale was the subject of another lawsuit Peters pursued against another company. That litigation was settled out of court earlier this year.
    • Flawed lawsuit. Hunt's motion reiterated a number of fundamental flaws in Peters' legal complaint.
  • Hearings scheduled. With the filing Hunt's dismissal motion just after a parallel motion filed days before by Dean Newbury, builder of Axanar's Ares bridge set, the Clark County, Nevada, court scheduled a hearing on November 25 for Newbury, and December 2 for Hunt.
Upping the ante against Peters. In separate motions, the defendants' lawyers drove up the cost to Peters of pursuing their clients. They cited a Nevada law calling for out-of-state plaintiffs like Peters' Georgia-based prop company to post a bond if they were suing Nevada residents. That cost Peters another $1,000 on top of his filing fees and ongoing attorneys' costs.

Legal GoFundMe. Meanwhile, Hunt and Newbury have raised $2,556 in a GoFundMe campaign to help defray the costs of defending themselves against Peters.
