FM Non-Commercial Filing Window Coming in 2021

Over a decade has passed since the FCC accepted applications for new full-power, non-commercial Educational (NCE) Construction Permits (CP). The upcoming filing window will allow nonprofit organizations, schools, and native tribes to apply for CPs. While the exact timing is not known yet, the FCC typically gives several months’ notice of any filing window. Check out the FCC Public Notice.

A new full-power FM station could help you expand your reach, provide a new service, or replace an existing translator for better coverage.

In preparation for the filing window, you can have your engineer prepare an initial analysis of the markets of interest for new reserved band FM stations. While we expect significant opportunities in many rural areas, there could also be new station opportunities in non-rural areas waiting to be discovered.

Once you identify a viable signal, Public Media Company can help you analyze its revenue potential, cost implications, and its value when the station is fully built.
Vermont Collaboration Goes Big

Congratulations to our colleagues at Vermont PBS and Vermont Public Radio, who undertook a visionary expedition to unite into a single public media service to serve Vermont and the surrounding region.  Even COVID-19 couldn’t stand in their way the resulting, newly formed organization will “launch” mid-2021, after FCC approvals. 2019 Trends in Public Media: Revenue Growth Continues

In 2019, public radio stations continued their long trend of revenue growth and public television stations are also growing again after a period of contraction brought on by the Great Recession.
