Ghana rural agrovets go digital 

A new mobile platform is set to revolutionise how veterinary medicines and vaccines are accessed and managed by agrovets in Ghana. Zhulia was recently launched by Cowtribe, GALVmed’s partner in West Africa, as a business-to-business (B2B) platform that allows rural agrovets to source and order animal health products such as vaccines, medications, feed, and other supplies directly from distributors and manufacturers with just a tap of a button.

The collective market that is small-scale producers 

Individual contribution, in terms of production, of  small-scale livestock producers may seem minimal, but collectively, they account for the majority of the livestock head in Africa and South Asia. Improving access to good quality vaccines and veterinary services will bring a tremendous positive impact in the survival of their animals and in their domestic economies.

Aggregating demand to reach small-scale producer market 

There still seems to be a red ocean competition among animal health companies to penetrate commercially operated livestock markets such as poultry and dairy. However, a vast and never reached, or very less reached, blue ocean small-scale livestock producer markets could equally be profitable through demand aggregation via appropriate platforms.

Why biosecurity is important for rural and emerging commercial poultry farmers

Poor management practices and absence of disease control strategies often result in high levels of mortality due to predators or infectious diseases. For small-scale livestock producers and emerging commercial farmers, this can be detrimental to their livelihoods. The importance of on-farm biosecurity cannot be overstated.
