30 October 2020

Dear <<First Name>>

This week in the Federal Parliament, Budget Estimates came to an end. On the back of last week's revelations, we this week heard further proof of the need for a National Integrity Commission. A federal ICAC is crucial for the future of Australian democracy.

In recent days, more cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in our community. It is crucial to monitor for signs of the virus and get tested even if there is the slightest hint of symptoms. You can find further details in the eNewsletter below.

As always, if you have anything to raise please contact my office by calling on (02) 8783 0977 or email Anne.Stanley.MP@aph.gov.au.

Kind Regards

Anne

Stranded Australians

This week I spoke in the House of Representatives calling on the Government to take action and help the thousands of Stranded Australians.

Too many of our citizens are stranded overseas and too little is being done to help them.

COVID-19 Western Sydney Update

Positive tests of COVID-19 have been detected in and around the electorate.

If you have visited the following venues, or have been in contact with someone has, please get tested immediately:

  • F45 Gym in Leppington from Thursday 15 October to Wednesday 28 October.
  • Jasmins Lebanese Restaurant in Liverpool on Sunday 25 October, from 2pm to3:30pm.
  • Flip Out Indoor Trampoline Park in Prestons on Sunday 25 October, from 11am to 3:30pm.

If you attended Carnes Hill Marketplace on Tuesday 27 October from 3:30pm to 4:30pm monitor for symptoms and if symptoms occur, get tested immediately.

Testing numbers have dropped recently, which is a concern. NSW Health is appealing to the community to come forward for testing right away if you have even the mildest of symptoms like a runny nose or scratchy throat, cough, fever or other symptoms that could be COVID-19.

There are over 300 COVID-19 testing locations across NSW.

Leppington's New Park – Have your Say

There is a new community park coming to Leppington. Liverpool City Council is working with the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment to create a new park in Leppington, under the Parks for People program.

The new park will be located opposite the Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Camden Valley Way. It will cover a 7.6-hectare site to the Western end of the bushland.

There are currently no set plans for the Park and Council is letting you directly inform its design.

Tax Time – Tomorrow Is The Last Day

There are just a few days left to lodge your tax return. The due date to lodge your tax return is the next business day after 31 October.

You can lodge online yourself using our online services via myGov or contact your registered tax agent. Lodging on time is important, even if you can't pay by 31 October.

No Incinerator in Western Sydney

The Department of Planning, Industry and Environment’s incinerator project for Western Sydney is unacceptable. This is the second time they have tried to build an incinerator facility in Western Sydney after the first project received significant community backlash.

This facility burns waste products and the heat is used to generate electricity. If approved, it will be the largest of its type in the world, dwarfing similar facilities already in operation in Europe. This project will cause a cumulative air pollution threat to the surrounding communities and the greater Western Sydney.

Western Sydney is not a dumping ground for incinerators. Make a submission telling them you're against this development.

Highlights From Parliament

There were many great speeches in Parliament this week. Below are two of my favourites.

Ed Husic

Ed Husic explained why there should be no incinerator in Western Sydney.

Matt Thistlethwaite

Matt Thisltethwaite asked the Prime Minister why he is handing out taxpayers dollars to the operators of private jets while airline workers lose their jobs.
