Why HIP?
HIP has an immediate and direct impact on helping improve the lives of Indigenous people, and thus the nation as a whole. As a diversity and inclusion leader, HIP’s board is 50% Indigenous, has gender equality, includes Rotarians and is geographically dispersed from coast-to-coast. HIP’s balanced board provides a diverse set of perspectives, expertise and competencies.
Rotarians are change makers who have been applying leadership and expertise to social issues for over 100 years. As a global network that strives to build a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change, Rotary values diversity and celebrates the contributions of people of all backgrounds, regardless of their age, ethnicity, race, color, abilities, religion, socioeconomic status, culture, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
HIP has experience with Indigenous and Non-Indigenous relationship building including facilitation of peer-to-peer engagement circles. Additionally HIP has delivered hundred’s of HIP Talks and hosted numerous Change-the-Narrative events.
Along with the Board of Directors and National Team, HIP has built a network of support across Canada that includes District Coordinators, Indigenous Communities and Rotary Clubs.

How funds are used.
Every donation is greatly appreciated. HIP’s first and foremost goal is to make sure that funds raised are used to make an immediate and real impact. Due to discounts, gifts-in-kind, power of volunteerism and partnerships, HIP has been able to deliver over six times the value of each dollar donated. In addition to HIP’s initiatives, a portion of funds raised may be used for:
- Development and distribution of awareness and education material.
- Community outreach, liaison and relationship building.
- Honorariums for Elders, Knowledge Keepers and Indigenous leaders.
- Project facilitation and support.
- Shipping and transportation of supplies.
Whether it is students, professionals and entire communities, bringing Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples together is life changing. HIP often receives a heartfelt thank you.
Working through HIP’s network of partners, and supported by hundreds of volunteers, HIP annually reaches tens of thousands of people. Donors can be confident in our financial efficiency, accountability and transparency.
