Fall Season Performance and Projects

Oberlin Conservatory and Chameleon Arts Ensemble livestreams,
On the Blue Shore of Silence Commissioning Project
Dear Friends,

Greetings from Oberlin, Ohio! Opening this with the phrase "I hope this finds you staying well during this strange times" feels overdone and potentially insincere, and yet I do whole-heartedly hope that this message is finding you as well as possible. While I have found myself hesitant to write with any sort of updates during said strange times, I also realize that now more than ever, we need to turn to the elements in life that remind us of beauty, hope, and joy. I find myself incredibly lucky to find this connection in music every single day and I invite you to join me in this discovery through some upcoming livestream performances, as well as a commissioning project that I hold near and dear to my heart.

Oberlin Conservatory Stage Left Livestream
Friday, October 30, 8:30PM
Free admission

I am delighted to join my faculty colleagues in a recital of works by the brilliant composer William Grant Still (an alumnus of Oberlin and on the occasion of his 125th birthday year). I join pianist Jim Howsmon for Still's Suite for Violin and Piano, an incredible piece that takes inspiration for each movement from works by artists associated with the Harlem Renaissance.

Chameleon Arts Ensemble Rewind Series
Saturday, November 14, 7:00PM
through Saturday, November 21
Free admission, registration required

In their first Rewind Series stream entitled "Remembering Joy" Chameleon Arts Ensemble will present our May of 2018 performance of Felix Mendelssohn's Octet. For a fun discussion and insider's look at what it means to play and perform this beloved work from the chamber music canon, be sure to check out the Artist Chat.

Johanna Andruchovici

On the Blue Shore of Silence

Co-Commissioned by the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society which will present the work in May of 2021, On the blue shore of silence is a multimedia commissioning project that draws inspiration from Pablo Neruda’s collection of twelve poems “On the Blue Shore of Silence: Poems of the Sea”. Composers Gity Razaz, Gloria Justen, and Sayo Kosugi will each take four poems from the collection and create response works for solo violin, electronics, and piano, totaling twelve movements to create a large-scale suite. Additionally, artist Johanna Andruchovici will create twelve original pieces of visual art to correspond with each poem and its respective music, which will be projected during the performance.

Curating this project has been a dream in the making for years now, and I cannot thank the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society enough for their support and generosity in co-commissioning and presenting this work. If you wish to support this project, you may do so by making a tax-deductible donation via Fractured Atlas. Thank you immensely for your consideration.

As always, all information can be found on my website for reference. Sending you my absolute best wishes for health and safety, as well as toward our collective, continued search for connection and joy through music.

Warmly,
Francesca dePasquale
