Dear <<First Name>>,

With a sense that winter is around the corner we start with a cracking Chianti Riserva from an excellent producer in Tuscany, from one of the best vintages in the region this century.
Querciabella, the masters of sub-regions and parcel differentiation in Chianti, produced a phenomenal Chianti Riserva in 2016.

This wine is a testament to
Querciabella’s Burgundian approach to making Chianti. The winemaker Manfred Ing is meticulous to the point of madness, mapping different parcels – sometimes a single row of vines – and harvesting and vinifying them entirely separately. This labour of love resulted in the discovery of three superlative sites that resulted in the birth of the Riserva with the 2011 vintage: one each in the communes of Greve, Radda, and Gaiole, which each bring distinct characteristics of elegance, power, and concentration. Above all, Querciabella’s signature perfume and energy drive this wine forwards, which will reward anyone strong enough to resist its charms and cellar for over a decade.

As one of the best vintages this century, surely 2016 will go down as one of the finest vintages for Tuscan wine.

Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate)

It’s not exactly as though Querciabella needed to re-invent itself, the wines had been outstanding for years, but that is exactly what is happening at this historic estate in Greve. Full credit must go to proprietor Sebastiano Castiglioni for his vision, unwavering commitment to quality and hiring of Luca Currado of Vietti to oversee the project. Querciabella recently completed the acquisition of additional vineyards in Castellina, which now gives the estate land in three different villages within Chianti Classico.
Walter Speller MW - places this wine on an exceptionally high pedestal, giving it a very rare score of 18/20. This was the joint highest score he has given any Chianti Riserva in 2016. Indeed, it outscores all but one Gran Selezione Chianti from 2016 as well! This is hardly surprising as the Riserva is, in spirit, a Gran Selezione. Querciabella do not use the name as they see the restrictions as too lax, so they decided to bottle a wine based on their three very best plots as a Riserva.

At this modest price it is sure to sell quickly and we urge you to secure a case, at the best price on the UK market!
Founded in 1974, Querciabella enjoys the acclaim of the world’s most discriminating critics and consumers for its exquisite range of biodynamic wines including Camartina, Batàr, Palafreno, Querciabella Chianti Classico and Mongrana. In its uncompromising pursuit of quality, sustainability and authenticity, Querciabella has continually honed its approach to biodynamic viticulture for over a decade. With vineyards located throughout Tuscany’s Chianti Classico and Maremma areas, Thanks to Sebastiano Cossia Castiglioni’s vision and leadership, Querciabella exemplifies the preservation of tradition through forward-thinking, albeit completely natural, winemaking.
Sebastiano Cossia Castiglioni was born in 1966 in Milan. Under the tutelage of his father Giuseppe Castiglioni, Sebastiano was introduced at an early age to the world of fine wine. A lifelong passion for great winemaking matched by a strong commitment to the environmental movement inspired Sebastiano to convert Querciabella to organic viticulture in 1988 and to biodynamics in 2000. This uncompromising vision and pioneering spirit has confirmed Querciabella as a leader among the greatest wineries of the world.
2016 Chianti Classico Riserva (DOCG)

100% Sangiovese

First Production:- 1999
Querciabella Chianti Classico Riserva is the perfect blend of the estate’s best parcels of Sangiovese from single vineyards in Greve, Radda and Gaiole in Chianti.
Similarly to other great wine terroirs of the world, the characteristics of the soil and the sites conditions vary often and considerably in Chianti Classico. The thoughtful acquisition of uniquely propitious vineyards in communes beyond our native Greve in Chianti, has given us the rare privilege of growing vines in some of the appellation’s finest districts and through meticulous site selection and a rigorous micro-vinification regime, we are keen to explore the minute details of the different subzones to bring the varietal expression of Sangiovese to a superior level.
Winemaker Notes

"Brilliant ruby-red. Aromas of violet, ripe cherries, earth, oak and a touch of incense. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and powerful and enriched with rosemary notes.

Well-integrated tannins, great texture and excellent freshness. Very long finish with a hint of iron."

"The 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva is an attractive wine built on aromatics and structure, with the fruit more in the background. It will be interesting to see if it fleshes out with more time in bottle. Sweet red cherry, lavender, rose petal, mint and spice gradually develop in the glass, but the 2016 remains quite reticent. It will be interesting to see if time in bottle brings out more depth. Today, the 2016 is decidedly shy.
I very much like the energy here."

Walter Speller MW
(Wine Spectator) - 18/20 pts

"Beautiful, concentrated ruby. Quite closed and backward, but subtle and complex on the nose. Bags of concentrated fruit and yet super-elegant palate. Vibrant with perfectly built, long, fine tannins. Refreshing and complex."
