OCTOBER 2020
Launch of the Gender Report
October has seen the global launch of the GEM 2020 Gender Report. Building on the 2020 Global Education Monitoring Report, this publication investigates how inclusion in education can advance gender equality in and through education, which is critical to make progress towards gender equality in society.

The goal of gender equality is, of course, not new. It was enshrined in the 1979 Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women and was at the core of the 1995 Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, whose 25th anniversary is marked in 2020, and is a key theme in this year’s publication.
First Generation Graduates
To coincide with the launch of the GEM 2020 Gender Report, the GEM Report launched the #Iamthe1stGirl campaign showcasing the stories of first generation girls graduates from around the world.

The campaign has aimed to demonstrate the progress in gender equality in education since the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action 25 years ago. Highlighted stories are presented on the UNESCO GEM Report blog site
New Policy Paper on ‘Inclusive teaching: preparing all teachers to teach all students’ published by UNESCO
An important element of inclusive education involves ensuring that all teachers are prepared to teach all students. Inclusion cannot be realized unless teachers are empowered agents of change, with values, knowledge and attitudes that permit every student to succeed. To summarize the policy perspectives on inclusive teaching, the GEM Report team along with the Teachers Task Force for Education 2030 have also published a policy paper on Inclusive Teaching.

The Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Report, in partnership with the UNESCO Regional Education Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (OREALC) and the Laboratory of Education Research and Innovation for Latin America and the Caribbean (SUMMA), will launch a regional report on inclusion and education in Latin America and the Caribbean on 5 November 2020.

Register for the online launch on 5 November, 11:30 (GMT-3)
