SCHEDULE CHANGE FOR NEXT WEEK

Due to inclement weather, power outages, and downed trees, school was cancelled for today, Thursday, October 29. We will return to school tomorrow on Friday with a regular Friday schedule.

In an effort to keep our class schedule balanced, Middle and Upper School students will have a "Thursday" schedule next week on Monday, November 2, with students only attending periods 4, 3, 2, and 1.

HOMECOMING SPIRIT WEEK

We are excited to celebrate Homecoming next week! This week is full of fun, spirit, and Whitefield traditions. We encourage participation as we build school spirit and unity!

All grade levels are welcome to dress up and show their school spirit. All Lower School students should wear uniform bottoms on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.

  • Monday, November 2: Superhero Day
  • Tuesday, November 3: Tacky Tourist Day
  • Wednesday, November 4: Tie Dye Day
  • Thursday, November 5: Tracksuit/Sweatpants Day for Middle and Upper School, Pajama Day for Lower School (no slippers)
  • Friday, November 6: Jersey Day

As your child plans his or her attire for the week, follow the Free Dress guidelines in the handbook with the following exceptions:

  • Face masks for COVID-19 purposes are of course still required. Students may not wear costume masks.
  • Students’ dress should avoid political statements, expressions, and/or symbols, especially as we work to build unity during election week.

  • If students choose not to dress up for that theme day, they should wear the normal Whitefield uniform for that day.

  • Students may wear hats if relevant to the dress-up day.

For Middle School and Upper School:

  • If students wear yoga pants or leggings as part of their costume, they must wear shorts of an appropriate length over them.

  • If a student’s costume proves to be a distraction, he or she might be asked to make adjustments to allow for a productive learning environment.

  • If students do not adhere to the free dress guidelines, they will lose their privilege to participate in theme days for the rest of the week.

VETERAN'S DAY ASSEMBLY

The Whitefield Veteran's Day Assembly is traditionally one of our special all-school events. As it approaches this year, we wanted to let you know that we will still recognize our veterans virtually and we want you to be a part of that experience! Due to our COVID-19 precautions, we will not have guests on campus for this event, but our students will watch a special Veterans Day presentation on Wednesday, November 11 at 9:15 a.m. and we will send a link of our Veterans Day Assembly so that you can also watch it with your student, your family, and with your veteran if you have one in your family!

Our veterans will be honored and celebrated in this presentation, so we are asking for your help. Please send information about the veteran(s) in your family to veterans@whitefieldacademy.com. Submit a picture or an image that represents their time in the service (the veteran in his/her uniform, a picture of their unit or any image that represents their branch of service and/or unit, a military operation in which they were deployed, etc.) no later than tomorrow, October 30. If you have any questions regarding the honor presentation, please email Karen Stewart. Thank you in advance!

Join us for a Night of Worship in the WolfPack Stadium! The band from North Point Community Church and alumna Hannah Rae Faulk (’12) will be leading us in a variety of worship from hymns to contemporary music. Seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis, and will be offered in a variety of seating options to best suit your family. Click here to reserve your space today!

HOMECOMING PEP RALLY

During Flex Time and lunch on Friday, November 6, Middle School and Upper School students will gather for the Homecoming pep rally and lunch. During the pep rally, Middle School and Upper School fall sports teams will be recognized, the cheer squads and drumline will perform, and the Homecoming Court will be formally presented to the student body. This event is for students only; parents are encouraged to watch via livestream (link will be provided in next week's WolfPack Weekly). We are adhering to mask and distancing requirements while we gather our student body to build school spirit.

REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE

Thanks to a recent grant of $1,000 from National Wildlife Federation, the Whitefield Middle School is working to pursue environmentally-friendly school activities in our Reduce, Reuse, Recycle campaign during the week of November 2-6.

Reduce:
Middle School science classes will be doing an analysis of the use of plastic water bottles in the cafeteria in an effort to reduce plastic waste.

Reuse:
Pass along your old uniforms and buy used clothes at Whitefield's Used Uniform Sale on Saturday, November 7!

Recycle:
Each grade can compete to recycle cellphones/smartphones, sneakers, prescription eyeglasses, and printer cartridges. All items should be turned in to your science teacher with a post-it note or label that includes your name and grade. Prizes will be awarded to the grade level with the most items. Friday, November 6 is the final day to submit your items!

The Whitefield community can tune into the game from home to participate virtually and cheer on the Pack!

OUTDOOR MOVIE NIGHT

In celebration of Homecoming week, the Student Government will host an outdoor movie night for all Upper School students on Saturday, November 7 from 7–9 p.m. on the Quad. Students will be treated to snacks while watching Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse. Please bring a blanket or beach towel for seating.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Student Government wanted to find a way to bring the Upper School community together despite the fact that we can’t move forward with the traditional indoor Homecoming Dance. This awesome group of student leaders continues to find ways to build community in these challenging times.

MIDDLE AND UPPER SCHOOL CHAPEL UPDATE
Our first chapel series this year was titled Common Ground: United in Faith, United in Prayer, United in Worship, United in Service. Each session discussed what we have in common in our faith and what ultimately unites us. Our goal was to explore how our identity in Christ overrides any other label and unifies us despite any of our differences. Addressing this through a biblical lens gives us the framework for small group dialogue within advisory to develop a pattern of learning from one another even with our differences, our cultural distinctives, our unique stories, and our life experiences. Following the Common Ground series is a four-part series titled Wisdom or the World, a glimpse into Proverbs led by our Bible Department. Starting with the foundational truth that we have our identity as children of God in common and as our primary identifier, we want to teach our students that God’s way is the best way. With all that is seeking to divide us, we have a manual for living, and we are to choose whether we will live with wisdom or with the world.

UPPER SCHOOL COMMUNITY SERVICE
Upper School students record their completed community service hours online through the website x2VOL at www.x2vol.com. Upper School students were introduced community service expectations and policies and set up their accounts during Monday Rally in September. If your student has questions about using x2VOL, he or she should contact Director of Student Leadership Mike Shaheen for support. For specific information regarding community service, please review pages 17-18 of the handbook.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD SHOEBOXES
Whitefield’s Hands and Feet Student Leadership Institute is so excited to be partnering with Operation Christmas Child in this upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas season to spread the joy of Christ with children around the world through shoebox gifts. We are especially excited to link the Upper School, Middle School, and PreK in this opportunity!

Middle School and Upper School students, click here for information about packing and submitting your shoeboxes or watch a short video with instructions.

TEN THOUSAND REASONS

Tomorrow is the final day to submit your Student Participation Pledge! Did you know you can request grant funds for a charity you serve? Through the Ten Thousand Reasons (TTR) grant application program, Whitefield students have secured more than $315,000 in life-changing grant funds to impact the lives of others in need.

Click here to see the “how to” video, then submit your Student Participation Pledge online through the TTR website no later than tomorrow, Friday, October 30. Grant applications are due February 1, 2021. We invite the entire community to partner with us to empower our children to change the world! Feel free to email us with questions.

PA ANNOUNCER NEEDED

Whitefield Athletics is looking for someone who has experience in, or is interested in learning how to be a PA announcer for basketball games at Whitefield. This opportunity will be for varsity games only this season and may be split between multiple people. If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity to be a part of the Whitefield community and get involved in athletics, please contact Athletic Director Danny Ryan.

ARTS SPOTLIGHT: ORCHESTRA SHARES THEIR TALENTS

The orchestra has embraced this year with grateful hearts and a thankfulness that they are able to play their instruments during these challenging times. They have been working hard to bring music to campus through various virtual mediums. Recently, three members of Whitefield's Cornerstone Chamber Ensemble, Gracen Chally (11th), Zoe Justice (11th), and Jonathan Johnson (11th), performed and recorded Be Thou My Vision for chapel. The members of the orchestra have spent this first semester reading the devotional "Amazing Grace" by Kenneth Osbeck and learning the history and stories behind some of the most famous gospel hymns. As we head into November, the orchestra will be looking towards the Christmas season with excitement and the hope of bringing holiday music to Whitefield.
