- Webinar 7: Overcoming Barriers to DSMES Referral and Treatment
SMBP: Virtual Course on accurate automated blood pressure measurement (2020). From Pan American Health Organization & World Health Organization. The course on accurate automated blood pressure measurement is an initiative of the Pan American Health Organization joined by the World Hypertension League, the Lancet Commission on Hypertension Group and Hypertension Canada, academically developed by a group of highly qualified experts recognized worldwide. It is structured in an interactive way with a narrated video that illustrates step by step how to properly measure blood pressure, as well as the factors that can alter the measurement and give misleading records. It consists of an interactive module with an illustrated video, a theoretical component and a narrative evaluation. At the end of the modules, the student will be able to download the certificate issued by the Virtual Campus for Public Health of PAHO/WHO and validated by Resolve to Safe Lives initiative and The Lancet Commission on Hypertension and Hypertension Canada.

Heart Disease (OCT 15) – Cutting Straight to the Heart: A pandemic lays bare the inequity of heart disease in America. National Forum Signature Report. The Signature Report highlights actions to decrease the burden of cardiovascular risk & disease, COVID-19 & health inequities.
Public Health (2020) – 2019 National Profile of Local Health Departments. The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) conducts the National Profile of Local Health Departments (commonly referred to as the "Profile study") every three years as a census of local health departments (LHDs). The Profile study represents the largest, most reliable data source on LHDs. This study describes the funding, staffing, governance, and activities of LHDs across the United States, developing a comprehensive and accurate description of LHD infrastructure and practice.

Toolkits

CVD (June 2018) – HEARTS: Technical package for cardiovascular disease management in primary health care. From the World Health organization. The HEARTS technical package provides a strategic approach to improving cardiovascular health in countries. It comprises six modules and an implementation guide. This package supports Ministries of Health to strengthen CVD management in primary health care settings. The practical, step-by step modules are supported by an overarching technical document that provides a rationale and framework for this integrated approach to the management of NCDs. More people die from cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) than from any other cause. Over three-quarters of heart disease and stroke related deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries. The HEARTS modules are intended for use by policy makers and programme managers at different levels within Ministries of Health, and within resource limited settings, who can influence CVD primary care delivery. The HEARTS technical package is part of the broader Global Hearts Initiative which includes two other packages that address the prevention of CVDs. The HEARTS modules were developed under the auspices of the Global Hearts Initiative, led by WHO and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Diabetes (APR 22) – HEARTS D: diagnosis and management of type 2 diabetes. From the World Health Organization. This new HEARTS – D module on Diagnosis and management of type 2 diabetes complements and expands the diabetes section of the HEARTS Technical Package developed for use in primary health-care facilities to improve cardiovascular health. This module brings together WHO guidance on diagnosis, classification and management of type 2 diabetes in one document. It is aligned with the WHO Package of Essential Noncommunicable Disease Interventions in Primary Health Care (WHO-PEN) and can be used independently or in conjunction with the other modules of the HEARTS technical package. The module will be useful to policy makers who plan service delivery of diabetes care, national programme managers responsible for training, planning and monitoring service delivery, and facility managers and primary care staff involved in clinical care and monitoring processes and outcomes of diabetes care.
Flu (OCT) – School-Located Influenza Vaccination Toolkit. From NACCHO. The School-Located Influenza Vaccination Toolkit is a comprehensive collection of information, best practices, and lessons learned from health departments, as well as federal and national partners, working with schools to conduct school-located influenza vaccination (SLIV) clinics.

COVID-19 (SEPT 23) – How COVID-19 Affects Your Heart. From the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). COVID-19 is a disease caused by a virus called SARS-CoV-2. The virus most commonly affects the lungs but it can also lead to serious heart problems. COVID-19 can damage the lungs, preventing enough oxygen from reaching the heart muscle.

Influenza:
DPH officials report weekly influenza activity to the CDC as part of statewide flu surveillance efforts. The weekly reports are posted online. The reports consist of laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza that are defined by molecular virus testing and positive virus culture test results. Rapid positive influenza tests are not included in this report, but are used as an indicator of flu-like illness circulating across the state.

For more information on influenza or the availability of flu vaccine, Kentuckians should contact their primary care medical provider or local health department. Influenza information is also available through the CDC.
