Annual Giving Campaign

Friends -

By now, you have received a letter from me kicking off our Annual Giving Campaign. A second letter from Fr. Bob is in the mail. Next week, your pledge packet will arrive. Please prayerfully consider how you can support Resurrection in the year to come.

Even as we look ahead, I ask that you continue to remember your commitment to support Resurrection this year. Part of planning for next year and calling a new priest means ensuring our financial house is in order. We are facing a shortfall in this year’s giving which will impact the coming year and our ability to call a new priest unless we catch up in the next two
months. Please check your giving record and make plans to catch up if you have fallen behind. If you find you are unable to meet your pledge, please reach out to me or to Frank Koch to let us know.

Giving is easier this year if you have signed up to give through Realm. If you need assistance with Realm, please let us know. Of course, you can also send a check to the church or make a payment through PayPal.

On behalf of the leadership of Church of the Resurrection, I am grateful for your faithfulness.

Names for All Saints' Day

This Sunday is All Saints' Day, the day on which we celebrate those who have gone before us. If you'd like to remember family or friends who have died since November 1 last year, please pass on their names to Lauri via e-mail or at (918) 766-2473. We'll honor their memories and read their names in this Sunday
service.

Report on the Search for a Rector

The Committee appointed to search for Resurrection’s next priest is working diligently in this very confidential process of discernment. We began by reviewing the excellent parish profile, committed to treating it as our “gospel” as we evaluate the gifts of those who have indicated an interest in becoming our next priest. (The parish profile has set a very high bar in this regard, to be sure: apparently we all agree that we need to find some combination of Mother Theresa, Martin Luther King and Gandhi, with an ear for fine music, a gift for reaching children, a Ph.D. in theology and an M.B.A. in finance!)

Our work was kick-started by a virtual meeting with Canon Neysa Ellgren Shepley, Canon to the Ordinary in our Diocese. We have been meeting regularly ever since and have received a stack of application materials from candidates, forwarded to us from the Diocese. Our advertisement in the
Episcopal News Service finishes running at the end of this month, but we have not delayed in our review of the applications submitted thus far, especially since we have been delighted at the high caliber of those who have expressed an interested in exploring our parish. We have scheduled video screening interviews of strong candidates for the first weeks of November, and hope those interviews will allow us to identify a small number of candidates to interview in person (the Lord and the pandemic willing...)

While it is never safe to predict the future in these very uncertain times, it is the search committee’s plan to be able to present a short list of finalists whom we agree would be terrific leaders for our parish shortly after the holiday season.

Call to Novena, Oct. 27 to Nov. 4

A Novena (nine days of devotional prayers) takes place from Oct. 27 to Nov. 4 to pray for the election, for discernment in voting and for the well-being of our nation. You can pray the Litany below every day as well as these guided daily prayers.
A Litany for Sound Government
O Lord our Governor, bless the leaders of our land, that we may be a people at peace among ourselves and a blessing to other nations of the earth.
Lord, keep this nation under your care.

To the President and members of the Cabinet, to Governors of States, Mayors of Cities, and to all in administrative authority, grant wisdom and grace in the exercise of their duties.
Give grace to your servants, O Lord.

To Senators and Representatives, and those who make our laws in States, Cities, and Towns, give courage, wisdom, and foresight to provide for the needs of all our people, and to fulfill our obliga-
tions in the community of nations.
Give grace to your servants, O Lord.

To the Judges and officers of our Courts give understanding and integrity, that human rights may be safeguarded and justice served.
Give grace to your servants, O Lord.

And finally, teach our people to rely on your strength and to accept their responsibilities to their fellow citizens, that they may elect trustworthy leaders and make wise decisions for the well-being of our society; that we may serve you faithfully in our generation and honor your holy Name.
For yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all.

Amen.                     Back to Contents

Prayer for an Election

Almighty God, to whom we must account for all our powers and privileges: Guide the people of the United States and this community in the election of officials and representatives; that, by faithful administration of wise laws, the rights of all may by protected and our nation be enabled to fulfill your purposes; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.                                                            Book of Common Prayer, page 822
