Message from Administration

Dear Bateman Families and Friends,

Election Day is nearly upon us (we’re sure you didn’t need us to tell you that). Like many of us, you may find yourself riding an emotional, political rollercoaster...most likely, our children are, too.

Voting is part of being a good citizen and a lesson children need to understand but only with support! At Bateman, we believe that parents and educators need to provide a safe space for children to reflect and share. It is our role to allow them to ask questions about what they’re seeing, how they’re feeling and what they think - it is our job, first and foremost, to listen.  This conversation will also provide a chance to dispel any scary rumors or misinformation they may have come across.

Here are some ideas on how to get the conversation going.

  • Show and tell. Lawn signs, bumper stickers, mailers, ballots and billboards are all signs of the election season. Use them as a starting point to discuss the presidential and other elections happening this year.

  • Explain voting — and hold a family “election.” Voting is a way for a group of people to decide something. To illustrate the point, hold your own election in your family: Should you have chicken or beef for dinner? Encourage respectful debate about the pros and cons of each. Have each person cast a secret ballot — majority rules!

  • Discuss electing leaders, and what that means to you. Elections are a way to choose people to serve in government. The people we elect to serve in government make rules and decide how to spend money we all pay in taxes. We vote for people who we believe would be good at making rules and decisions. Talk with your children about who you support, and why.

  • Talk about rights and responsibilities. Every vote counts! As a good citizen, voting is a way to make your opinion heard and change things that may need changing. It is both a right for people over the age of 18 and a responsibility.  Your voice matters!

  • Discuss a kid-friendly issue. The people that we support as voters are those who support issues we care about. Are you concerned about the environment, education or another issue? Talk with your child about an issue that you can impact by voting.

Leading up to the election, our teachers have been infusing several read alouds, including,  Vote for our Future, Grace for President, Sofia Valdez for Prez and many more options from Teaching BooksWe encourage you to take time on our day off to exercise each of our rights to vote to utilize some of these great resources!

Thank you for all you continue to do to #BeBatemanSTRONG!

Warmly,

Georgia and Kate

Staff Office Hours

How do I contact my teacher if I have a question?
Each Bateman teacher hosts office hours as an additional support for students and parents. These are included in weekly learning plans. If you need quick access, please click here to view when your child's teacher hosts office hours.

Report Cards
How can I view my child's grades prior to report cards?

You will receive a Progress Check-In Reminder email each Sunday evening, beginning on October 25th. It is important for parents to continuously monitor student growth and grades. You will receive this email on a weekly basis as a friendly reminder to check Parent Portal.

We encourage all families to opt in to Parent Portal on Aspen to view your child's grades weekly. This helps foster clear communication between teachers, students, and parents in order to support each child's success. Please visit the CPS Parent Portal page for more details regarding your account.

Parents are also invited to Google Classrooms as a guardian to view weekly updates and view missing assignments. Please speak to your child's teacher regrading access, if needed.
