Get a Free #YouAreWelcomeHereCWRU Mask
During CWRU's International Education Week!
The Center for International Affairs is kicking off Case Western Reserve University’s International Education Week celebration with a free #YouAreWelcomeHereCWRU face mask giveaway
Faculty, staff and students are invited to stop by and pick up a mask on Monday, November 9 outside Tomlinson Hall from 2 - 5 pm (or as long as supplies last).
The Center hopes the masks will help spread CWRU’s message of welcome and ensure all members of the university community, particularly those from historically marginalized communities, feel valued and know they belong!
There are several other events planned to celebrate International Education Week - including a week-long Virtual Study Abroad Fair, a Sustained Dialogue Program focused on standing with members of the campus community of Asian origins amid increasing racism, and an event hosted by the LGBT Center called "International ABCs of LGBT: Queer History” looking at
 laws, travel, history and legacy.
You can find the full schedule of events and links to register on the International Education Week website.

Center for International Affairs Creates
Anti-Racism Committee
The Center for International Affairs has established an internal Anti-Racism Committee to explore the intersection between internationalization and racism and to help us educate ourselves about systemic racism. We want to improve our understanding of the issues and challenges impacting people of color in the campus community and beyond. The Committee has created a resource list featuring relevant articles, books, podcasts, documentaries and films to help begin the education process and is facilitating a book club and discussion group for Center staff to further our personal and professional growth. The Center also plans to explore how systematic racism impacts education abroad access and our international students as we work to be more inclusive and contribute to making Case Western Reserve a more welcoming, healthy, and anti-racist community.

Supporting
International Students
as the Semester Ends
Planning for the end of fall semester is especially challenging for international students this year as they face uncertainties related to the pandemic and guidance from the U.S. government for spring semester. Faculty and Staff can help Case Western Reserve's international students by directing them to the university's COVID-19 Campus Communications page and the Office of International Student Services' Communication Corner to ensure they have all the information possible to make decisions about whether to return to their home country or stay in the U.S. during break. International Student Services has provided more information for faculty and staff at the link below.

The Office of Global Strategy works to further the international objectives and vision of Case Western Reserve University. It develops strategies and direction for the university's global engagement initiatives, builds relationships with partners around the world and communicates international activity across campus and beyond.
As part of these efforts, the Vice Provost and Assistant Provost for International Affairs work with the International Affairs Advisory Council and the International Affairs Visiting Committee. The Advisory Council is comprised of Case Western Reserve administrators, senior faculty, and the deans of all schools and the college, providing invaluable experience and expertise to guide the university's international initiatives. The Visiting Committee is an elite external advisory group that provides Case Western Reserve with thoughtful insights and opinions regarding its ongoing internationalization.
The Office of Global Strategy also works to improve the university's international rankings, cultivates and analyzes data related to international students and those who study abroad, and oversees major events including International Education Week, Asian-Mid Autumn Festival, Lunar New Year, Holi and the International Achievement Luncheon

A study abroad student and others "eat around the bowl" in Senegal
Hannah Clarke, a French major with a specialization in pre-health and a student in the Masters of Public Health Integrated Graduate Studies program, spent spring semester 2019 studying in Dakar, Senegal. To prepare for living with a host family in Senegal, she had to learn how to "eat around the bowl" as Senegalese families do for lunch and dinner.
