30-10-2020 News Update 148

Hello, Calvin here again.

As you know, I have been giving you all a lot of news updates about my one-to-one computer software training lately. Also, I have mentioned my web design offer to create a website for your business using Wordpress.

But as we come to the end of 2020 and my academy students graduate soon, I want to share with you what I told them before the short holiday break which started last week.

I highlighted the importance of having a clear goal to work towards. For them and for most college students, it seems obvious that their goal would be to achieve their Diploma, but I disagree and here's why....

Attaining your Diploma should not be your ultimate goal but rather one of the strategies you use in your plan to achieve the real goal of getting a meaningful job related to your career choice for which you studied this year.

Yes, the goal is getting a job in Feb 2021 to kick-start your career and not only to get a Diploma.

If your energy is focused on a job-oriented goal then you will use all the strategies that make up a good plan to achieve your goal.

An average plan is not good enough to achieve great results. If planning for a Diploma is all you planned for then that is what you will get and that in its own is an average achievement.

But leveraging off your Diploma, your CV, your letter of recommendation from your internship company as well as getting the help of your lecturer and college manager/owner to open doors and opportunities to connections in the career you have studied for will widen the scope of your plan and make it a better plan.

Together with your career mentor you can make sure you formulate the right plan. Once you work the right plan with all its different strategies and time-lines to monitor and achieve, then you will get the right goal...namely, a career related job in 2021.

Your career goal should occupy your mind and your energies and not the distractions of Covid, politics and the current recession we are going through.

By mid-April, at the height of the pandemic earlier this year, my college had already adjusted and communicated a better plan to make sure all our students are employed by Feb next year.

Now if we have adjusted our plan with better strategies and are prepared for the job environment/opportunities expected in 2021 then I want to ask you the question: how prepared are you to thrive in your career next year?

Are you also working on your strategies or have you lost so much income that you have given up on your plan or have you down-graded your goals?

I want to encourage you to make sure your specialist computer skills are always up to the highest standard and that you will not find yourself making average career goals for 2021.
