Parking Services Merge Under Public Works, City Seeks Community Input on Improving Parking Experience
On November 9, 2020, the City Council voted unanimously to approve the transition of administrative oversight of parking enforcement from the Burlington Police Department (BPD) to DPW, which includes a shift of personnel and budgeting authority. This transition was first proposed in the Mayor’s Fiscal Year 2021 budget, which the Council approved in June 2020. Now, DPW is working on a seamless transition to ensure integrated parking services, excellent customer service and an alignment of mission with community values.
The community first shaped the decision to shift parking enforcement from BPD to DPW earlier this summer. Given the wide array of people who use parking services in Burlington, the City now is looking for additional input on making operational improvements.
This involves two parts. First, parking management will be reaching out directly to dozens of stakeholders (such as residential parking permit holders, downtown businesses, and contractors). Simultaneously, the parking team also invites the public to fill out a brief, four- question survey about customer service, access to information and mobile payments.
The survey can be found at parkburlington.com/parking-integration-survey/ and will be live through the end of the year.
