Peaceful Heart:  The Buddhist Practice of Patience by Dzigar Kongtrul

Patience is one of the most important qualities we can develop, as it represents our mind’s ability to work positively with anything that bothers us, including anger, loss, jealousy, and helplessness. We are consistently confronted with situations or outcomes we weren’t expecting or didn’t want, and our default response is to reject what happened with feelings of mild irritation, inward complaining, self-aggression, or seething resentment. Patience is an antidote to all these forms of rejection. Those who have mastered patience have learned to welcome all challenging situations, people, and emotions as opportunities to open their hearts rather than close them.

Based on the teachings of the sixth chapter of Shantideva’s The Way of the Bodhisattva, Peaceful Heart explores how Buddhist teachings on patience can help you work with whatever disturbances arise in your life and in your mind. Dzigar Kongtrul provides practices and examples throughout the book to challenge readers on the path to developing a more patient heart.

Join us from your home at https://zoom.us/j/825940300

The first book for discussion is Dakini Power by Michaela Haas.

The Collective will be a monthly book discussion group on zoom open to all Sangha members.

After our initial meetings, we will be collectively choosing our future book choices—men are welcome to participate in our discussions but not to vote on the book choices.

We encourage all of you to read Dakini Power and join us with your impressions of the book.

Sangha Social Hours

We will have Sangha Social Hours starting on Friday November 13th from 7-9pm on Zoom.  These will continue every second Friday of each month.

This will not be a teaching, simply a place to connect and visit with Sangha members. Anyone is welcome to join!

Supporting Animal Place's Mission

This quote from Patrul Rinpoche is exactly what Animal Place does:  Protects the defenseless by providing refuge to those in danger. "saving lives is the most beneficial (action)."

Animal Place will receive our Sangha's fall donation of $300 for the Thank the Turkeys program in November.

Because of the generosity of our Sangha, many exploited animals are given refuge. No one is turned away.

To learn more about this wonderful group go to animalplace.org.

The Buddha's Bowl / El cuenco del Buda

Although we take Refuge in the Three Jewels, the practice of the Dharma is necessarily a personal undertaking.  The Buddhas point the way, but it is we who must walk the path.

This booklet is an exploration of the Buddha's teachings regarding other sentient beings and veganism, the ethical commitment to minimize the suffering of human and non-human animals.

You can download a PDF in English or en español.

The Dharma Handbook

Kunchen Dolpopa's The Dharma Handbook, with Tashi Nyima's extensive commentary, is available in paperback, PDF, and ePub formats. All versions are offered at no cost.

Contact us for a paperback copy.

Download the ePub version here.

About Our Lineage

Nying Je Ling (Universal Compassion Buddhist Congregation) is a western branch of Great Middle Way Buddhism. It arose, as with all Buddhist communities, from the teachings, example, and blessings of Buddha Shakyamuni. These were then transmitted through a lineage of realized Buddhist Masters, including the Protector Maitreya, the Superior Nagarjuna, the Holy Brothers Asanga and Vasubandhu, the Omniscient Dolpopa, and the Noble Taranatha.

Nying Je Ling presents the Dharma in a form that is appropriate to the needs and conditions of the contemporary world. We encourage all to follow the perfect example of simplicity and purity of practice shown by the Jonang Lamas throughout history.May the sun that illumines the Mountain Dharma of Kunchen Dolpopa’s GreatMiddle Way, having risen in Tibet, now shine over the West. By the merit accrued through the pure thoughts, words, and deeds of the Jonangpas, may the teachings, example, and blessings of Buddha Shakyamuni and the Buddha from Dolpo remain and flourish for the greater good and happiness of all beings.

Cheryla Coskie is the face of these organizations for us and she brings information and displays, shares when and how, gives information about our efforts etc.

If you wish to give money for our various projects for UCBC, we accept cash, checks or donations via PayPal, and our account info is: UCBC.donate@gmail.com

UCBC is totally separate from what we give to Tashi-la in his bowl at Sangha and at retreats. Tashi-la cannot accept, or be involved in decisions of how the money is spent for UCBC, since he is a monk.

Donations to UCBC can be received by Cheryla in Dallas, Abha in Plano, and Jack in Hurst. If a written receipt is needed please contact:  cherylacoskie@aol.com

Additional Outreach Activities
