Announcements
A message from your GUUF President, Jeannette Winn:

We have realized that when we moved from publishing our monthly Flame to our weekly E-News that we no longer have had the monthly columns from the Minister, the GUUF President, and the Director of the UUWoC that we were used to reading.  So we’re trying to work out a schedule so we can have those regular musings and reports in addition to the normal announcements that appear each week in the E-News.

Thanks to those of you who have responded to the questionnaire you received from the Covid-19 Task Force.  If you haven’t put your two cents in and would like to, please do so asap, using this link:
https://rb.gy/q5dyhwWe are in the process of going through your responses and suggestions now, which are very helpful to the Covid-19 Task Force.

After many months of hard work by the Bylaws Task Force during last year and this year, I am happy to report that the GUUF Board approved the proposed new Bylaws at our October meeting, and the Bylaws Task Force will soon be sending out a copy of them to the Congregation for your consideration.  We will then organize several virtual cottage meetings set up so that everyone can discuss the proposed changes and offer comments and suggestions before we schedule a congregational meeting to approve the new Bylaws.  FYI, our current Bylaws were last amended on July 29, 2012.  Many, many thanks to the task force of Tommie Reece, Jo Anne Hennigan, and Rev. Lisa Bovee-Kemper, first led by Dave Ball, last year’s GUUF President, and now Howard Jones, our President-Elect!

I hope you have exercised your all-important right to vote in today’s election!  (Polls are open until 7 pm.) No matter what the results, our country faces a huge task of healing and better communication.  May we, as UU’s, embrace our seven principles, particularly keeping in mind our first:  the inherent worth and dignity of every person.

WHITE LIES
In 1965, UU Minister Rev. James Reeb was attacked in Selma, Alabama after leaving a restaurant. He died three days later.  Three white men were arrested, but quickly acquitted and the case was closed. No one was ever held to account for his murder.
Fifty years later, two Alabama journalists returned to Selma to investigate. It took them five years to expose the lies that kept the murder from being solved, but in the process they uncovered a wrenching story about guilt and memory that says as much as much about America today as it does about the past.
White Lies is a serialized investigative podcast released over 7 episodes on National Public Radio.   “RIVETING!”  CLICK HERE TO LISTEN ON THE WEB
