A Note From Our Executive Director

Hi Friends,

As we wrap up another Domestic Violence Awareness Month I am reflective about the wonderful things we were able to accomplish.  Typically, we would have many public events with our community present, celebrating our work and honoring survivors.  Obviously, this year was very different for everyone.  But our staff, especially our Prevention and Outreach team, responded creatively and as you can see from the activities highlighted below we did not let the pandemic stop us from getting our message out and raising awareness.

Even during this time of social distancing, our work continues and we need the support of our community.  There are a variety of ways to get involved in our organization and support our mission to reduce the incidence of intimate partner violence through crisis intervention services, community education and the promotion of healthy relationships.

Consider the following:

  • Donate through our website and sign up for a recurring donation to become a member of our Safe HAVEN Giving Collective.
  • Adopt a Family during the holiday season;
  • Apply to our Volunteer program and work directly with participants and on the hotline;
  • Choose to support Catalyst through the North Valley Community Foundation’s Week of Giving Program starting December 1st.  Be on the lookout for information about this program;
  • Take a picture in front of our mural and post about your healthy relationships. Don’t forget to tag us! @CatalystDVServices

Whether it's your time or your treasure, or a little of both, we are so thankful for your continued support.  For without it we could not do the life-changing work our advocates do every day.

With gratitude,

Anastacia L. Snyder
Executive Director

Catalyst Celebrates New Mural
Thank you Golden Valley Bank and Jed Speer for the video footage!
We celebrated the completion of our new mural last week. We want to give a huge thank you to the incredible artist, Jed Speer of Seizer One Designs, for taking our vision and creating this amazing artistic expression; Judy Archer, the building owner who graciously embraced our idea and let us take over her wall; and our sponsors who made our dream a reality: American Red Cross, Chico Rotary (specifically Team Centurions), and Golden Valley Bank Foundation. Their support demonstrates a commitment to our agency’s work, the participants we serve, and the promotion of healthy relationships in our community. We are grateful!

While the final product is a beautiful piece of art for all to enjoy, the deeper value lies in the conversations with loved ones that stem from it. Considering the question: In your relationship, do you feel loved, safe, supported, and respected? If not, and when ready, Catalyst is here for you. 💜

Monthly Activity Kits
Even now as businesses begin to reopen at limited capacity, the cost of outings and personal safety risks can be added barriers for our participants. Our Children's Advocates Nat and Daryll have been creating monthly bonding activity kits for the families in our housing programs. This month's kit is Halloween inspired, with candy and two family activities (Scattergories and BINGO).

We recognize that like everything else, Halloween is going to look different for a lot of folks, but we still wanted to be able to share some fun and tricks and treats with housing folks. Every kiddo gets a pumpkin of their own to decorate or carve! Provided free of charge, parents will not have to add an additional financial strain for recreational things knowing that their children will enjoy a variety of experiences provided by Catalyst each month. Support from North Valley Community Foundation helps to make these kits possible.
Living Room Remodel
Our living room got a major upgrade! Thanks to a grant awarded to us by The Discovery Shoppe for our Adopt-A-Room Campaign, we have freshly painted walls, new flooring, furniture, lighting, and area rugs to turn this communal space into a warm and inviting living area for the residents at our shelter.
Ways to Support Catalyst
We would like to invite you to participate in our Adopt-A-Family program this year by choosing any one of our donation options that works for you:
  • Adopt an entire family, which means we would send you a wish list compiled by the family, or families, and you do the shopping yourself.
  • Donate cash or gift cards to Catalyst which allows our staff to shop and make purchases according to the sponsored family’s wish lists.
  • Donate new, unwrapped items such as wrapping paper, toys, and/or clothing which will be distributed to families who may not have been specifically adopted by anyone. (Ask us how we can help!)
If you are able to partner with us to help make this season a little brighter for families impacted by domestic violence, please call 343-7798 to reach Carolina, Housing Program Manager, or Nat, Children’s Advocate.
