About our team
The Department of Regional NSW was formed in 2020 as a central agency for regional issues. The Department is responsible for building resilient regional economies and communities, strengthening primary industries, managing the use of regional land, overseeing the state’s mineral and mining resources and ensuring government investment in regional NSW is fair and delivers positive outcomes for local communities and businesses.
Local Land Services (LLS) is an Executive Agency related to the cluster. It provides quality, customer-focused services to landholders and the community across New South Wales. This regionally based organisation brings together a wide range of service and advisory functions including agriculture, biosecurity, natural resource management, land management, biodiversity, emergency services, private native forestry and the Soil Conservation Service.
About the role:
We have a great opportunity for an experienced Biosecurity professional to undertake field and regulatory activities to support programs and advisory services for the management of pest animal for the Region in accordance with the LLS and regional strategic plans and national objectives.
As a Biosecurity Officer with North West Local Land Services, you will utilise your working knowledge of current and emerging biosecurity issues to advise customers and stakeholders to ensure that the plant and animal biosecurity objectives of both the Walgett area and the wider North West region are met. This will involve surveillance and investigation activities, managing landholder enquiries and providing advice on pest animal control, assisting with the implementation of the North West Regional Strategic Pest Animal Management Plan and emergency response activities.
Reporting to your Team Leader, you will be provided with support and guidance from an experienced team of Biosecurity Officers and colleagues.
About You:
To be successful in this role, you will be passionate and enthusiastic about animal and plant biosecurity. You will be the frontline in engaging with customers and stakeholders to communicate sound advice and apply appropriate regulations as they relate to pest animals, plant health and disease control. Living and working in the Walgett community will assist you in your role of networking, community engagement becoming known by Stakeholders. Knowledge of priority pest animals and control options in the North West is an advantage in this role.
You must work well within a team, but also be able to work independently and communicate with a range of stakeholders. There will be some inter-regional travel involved in this role and training will be provided to complement your existing skill set. You will balance role requirements in an environment which is technically complex and often unpredictable and where emergency situations can take precedence over planned activities.
If you are passionate about helping local communities to manage biosecurity risks and emergency situations, then we want to hear from you.
