Improved Beach Access in Cambridge
The Town launched new accessible beach matting and a beach wheelchair at City Beach with a 'Come and Try' session on Wednesday 18 November.
Attendees had the opportunity to test out the Mobi-mats beach matting in their own wheelchairs, and try out the new Sandcruiser Beach wheelchair at the event.
Mayor Keri Shannon officially opened the event at the City of Perth Surf Life Saving Club, attended by approximately 40 community members.
The Town partnered with Spinal Life Australia to host the event as part of their new Accessible Australia app launch.
The beach access matting provides assistance for many people, including people with disability, seniors, and parents with prams, making it easier to get from the footpath onto the sand.
The matting will undergo a trial period near the southern groyne this summer and remain in place 24/7.
Wheelchair and mobility aid users will be able to access the beach via the new matting in their own wheelchair, or hire the beach wheelchair at no cost.

Have your Say by Monday 23 November
The Town of Cambridge invites community feedback on the proposed shared path along Selby Street between The Boulevard and Grantham Street, Floreat.
This is an important section of the Town’s Cycle and pedestrian network, completing the route from the southern boundary of the Town at the intersection of Selby Street and Hay Street, to the northern boundary at the intersection of Selby Street and Herdsman Parade.
The path will be red asphalt, three metres in width and constructed along the western verge of this section of Selby Street.
It will be a shared pathway with a centre line to facilitate both cyclists and pedestrian traffic in a safe and orderly manner.
The cost of the construction is partly funded by the Department of Transport from the Western Australian Bicycle Networks Grant Program.
View the drawings and provide feedback via www.cambridge.wa.gov.au/selby.
Submissions close 5.00pm, Monday 23 November 2020.
