COMMUNICATIONS

What is LCC's Servant Leader Network?

Social media censoring got you down? Or maybe you're looking for a secure place to share files within your congregation or LCC-affiliated group??

DID YOU KNOW?
  • Servant Leader Network (SLN) is essentially an “intranet” (an internal website) created specifically for the people of LCC, to assist with communications!
  • Both formal and informal groups can be created by users to enable discussion, document sharing, event planning, and more within these groups.
  • All user-created content will be visible ONLY to those who are signed in to the site.
  • User accounts will be moderated; those who sign up for an account must have their account MANUALLY approved.
FUN FACT:
LCC's Committee for Communications and Technology (CCT) uses SLN to plan and coordinate their meetings, and to share information and ideas! And, you can too!

Sign up at https://servantleader.network. Your account will be reviewed within a day or so and, once approved, you’ll be able to sign in and join or create groups within the Network. Please contact LCC Communications with any questions.

MISSIONS IN CAMBODIA!

Deaconess Va Savet serves the Lutheran Church in Kampot as an instructor of the faith.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, since Your Son has saved the world through His holy, innocent, bitter sufferings and death and sent forth His Church to proclaim the Good News of this salvation to the ends of the earth and to distribute His saving gifts of grace, we pray that You would sustain Deaconess Savet by Your Spirit and richly bless her labours for the sake of the Gospel; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C: Amen.

SERMON OF THE WEEK

Sermons for each remaining Sunday of the Church Year 2020 will be continually updated on our website. These weekly sermons, written by various LCC pastors, are primarily intended for congregations without a pastor and for those unable to provide online services during exceptional circumstances, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Each written sermon is accompanied by the Collect of the Day, appointed Scripture Readings, suggested hymns, and prayers. We hope that this resource will be a blessing to our small, isolated, and vacant congregations.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

LCC Welcomes New Administrative Assistant: Angela Honey!

"Originally from Alberta and having been in the far east (Atlantic Canada) for the past thirteen years, I am pleased to return to the prairies.

My husband Matthew and I have most recently been coffee shop owners in St. Andrews by the Sea, New Brunswick for over a decade. At the point where we were beginning to feel over caffeinated we were blessed to be able to sell the café to our manager and start the search for a new purpose and vocation.

We were both excited by the opportunity for me to work for Lutheran Church–Canada and after much prayer decided to make the move to Winnipeg. While we are sad to leave our seaside friends we look forward to the many opportunities that God will provide in this new adventure. I look forward to meeting you all."

GOVERNMENT EXTENDS CANADA WAGE SUBSIDY (CEWS) UNTIL JUNE 2021

INTRODUCES NEW CANADA EMERGENCY RENT SUBSIDY (CERS)

On October 9, 2020, the Government of Canada announced its intention to extend the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy ("CEWS") until June 2021. This announcement was detailed in a news release that also contained information on a new rent subsidy program (the "Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy"), which is intended to provide rent and mortgage support to qualifying organizations (which includes registered charities) affected by COVID-19. According to the release, the CEWS will remain at "the current subsidy rate of up to a maximum of 65 per cent of eligible wages until December 19, 2020." This announcement extending the current maximum CEWS amount represents a change from the current legislation, which gradually reduces the maximum CEWS amount available in respect of active employees to 45% in Period 9 (October 25, 2020 – November 21, 2020). Details regarding the maximum CEWS amounts for Period 10 were previously unavailable. The Government intends to introduce legislation to implement the Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy and the CEWS extension in the near future.

We will keep congregations informed on future period wage subsidy amounts as those details become available. The initial letter from LCC Administrator, Dwayne Cleave, with more information can be downloaded as a PDF by clicking the button below:

Good Works Pleasing To God

“For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done.” - Matthew 16:27

St. Paul talks about rewards on the Last Day in 1 Corinthians 3, and Jesus says more about this “repaying” in Matthew 19:27-30. Bottom line: Your good works can’t buy you heaven, but in Christ your good works do matter. They are pleasing to your Heavenly Father, and they will be rewarded. In other words, our sacrifices for the Lord’s kingdom are not in vain, and they are not unnoticed by your Father. This should encourage you in your faithfulness.

What does this look like in our everyday life? Of course in our love for our family and our neighbour. We also strive to please our Father through our many vocations. Stewardship is another significant good work and one of our greatest opportunities to practice great stewardship is when we die. Setting aside a portion of our estate for the benefit of the church is a wonderful way to say “thanks for the blessings” and support the good work of the church long after we are gone. Lutheran Foundation Canada can help you create plans that are a blessing to your family and your church.

For more information, please visit www.lutheranfoundation.ca or speak to one of our regional Gift Coordinators.

For some people, their single largest earning year is the year they die! This may seem odd since most people die well into their retirement years, not their working years. However, income in the year you die includes many things: pension, OAC, CPP, interest, capital gains, and anything leftover in your RSP or RIF if you don’t have a spouse to transfer it to. That combined income could put you in the top tax bracket and create a large tax liability you weren’t aware of. A charitable gift may help to offset this tax liability. Talk to a Foundation representative to learn how you can reduce or eliminate this liability.

3-year and 1-year Series available Here.

LAST SUNDAY OF THE CHURCH YEAR (Proper 29A)
(November 22, 2020)
Ezekiel 34:11–16, 20–24
1 Corinthians 15:20–28
Matthew 25:31–46

By the Cross of Christ, We Enter the Kingdom of Our God and Father

When the crucified and risen Lord Jesus comes to judge the living and the dead, “he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats” (Matt. 25:32). “To those on his right,” who have been crucified and raised with Him through repentance and faith in His Gospel, He will grant the blessed kingdom of His Father (Matt. 25:34). Having been justified by His grace, they live unto righteousness in Him (Matt. 25:35–40). But “those on his left,” who trust in themselves and despise their neighbor, will depart “into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels” (Matt. 25:41). Until that day, the Lord searches for His sheep “as a shepherd seeks out his flock” (Ezek. 34:11–12). Through His preaching of repentance, He disciplines the proud sheep and goats, “the fat and the strong,” but through the preaching of forgiveness He rescues the lost, binds up the injured, strengthens the weak and feeds “the lean sheep” (Ezek. 34:16, 20). In this way, He destroys the power of death in the children of Adam by His cross, so that “in Christ shall all be made alive” by His resurrection (1 Cor. 15:20–26).
