Transforming Community Safety Survey

We will also be looking at some of the cost savings decisions made in 2020 and how they impact day to day services of residents, public safety, and an overview of how CARES funding has been utilized. City Budget Public Hearings
There are two upcoming online public hearings for people to share thoughts on Mayor Jacob Frey’s recommended 2021 City Budget. Comments can also be submitted online at the City’s website.

The City Council is scheduled to vote on adopting the budget on Wednesday, Dec. 9.
Mayor Jacob Frey’s proposed $1.5 billion budget calls for a 5.75% maximum levy increase. With a 12% increase in the overall tax base growth, three-quarters of Minneapolis residential property owners will see a decrease in their property tax bills with the median-valued household set to experience a $59 yearly decrease.

Parks for All is Now Open for Public Feedback
The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) Parks for All is a new comprehensive plan will set MPRB priorities and policy direction for the next decade. Minneapolis community members, park users, MPRB staff and partners are encouraged to review the plan and send feedback during a 70-day public comment period that ends Monday, Jan. 18, 2021.
Following the public comment period, the draft plan will be revised based on public input and presented to MPRB Commissioners for review and approval. Use the link below to view the draft Parks for All plan, give feedback on it and learn more about the processes and input used to create it.

Take the Lyndale Avenue Safety Survey.
Do you feel safe living, working, and traveling along the Lyndale Avenue corridor? How can Lyndale Avenue be a safer, more enjoyable street for everyone to walk, bike, or roll? Our neighbors to the southeast, the Kingfield neighborhood, are collecting survey data! So take the survey. This project is a collaboration between Our Streets Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota's Humphrey School of Public Affairs. Participants will be entered to win a $10 Aldi gift card.

Bryant Avenue Reconstruction Update
The Minneapolis Public Works Department plans to reconstruct 2.5 miles of Bryant Avenue S, from Lake Street to 50th St W, in 2022. It is anticipated that this project will take two years to construct. The project will replace 60-year-old infrastructure. It also provides the opportunity to enhance the safety and comfort for people who live, work, and play on Bryant Avenue S. for 60 or more years into the future.
The City of Minneapolis is planning to host its second virtual open house for the Bryant Avenue Reconstruction project in late November/early December. The purpose of the meeting will be to share project updates and solicit input from the public on draft design concepts for the reconstruction of Bryant Avenue S. Please plan to join project staff for a presentation followed by a Q & A session.

Snow Emergency Season is Here: Sign Up for Alerts
Snow season has arrived. Avoid a ticket and tow, and also help crews do a complete job plowing the streets by moving your car when a Snow Emergency is declared.
Snow Emergencies are declared when there’s enough snowfall to warrant a complete plowing of our streets. Moving vehicles allows crews to plow the full width of the street. When the snow flies, City Public Works crews have enormous jobs to do, with more than 1,400 miles of streets, parkways and alleys that need to be cleared. Vehicles parked on the street in violation of Snow Emergency rules can be ticketed or towed.
Getting drivers to follow Snow Emergency parking rules helps the City, too. Towing and impounding vehicles is expensive and makes plowing inefficient, so it’s in everyone’s interest to help drivers follow the parking rules and avoid a ticket and tow.

Their recommendations can help you improve everything from the energy performance of large equipment like furnaces, to the smaller, easier-to-overlook energy users like lightbulbs.
While usually performed in person, Home Energy Squad is now offering a free virtual home energy audit. If you are working remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic, you may have noticed that asking your home to act as both office and living space can really increase how much energy you use along with your monthly utility bill. After your free virtual visit, you and your energy expert may decide that the best next step is an in-person visit, which can be performed safely with health and safety guidelines in mind. Free in-person visits are available to income-qualified households.

Find Free COVID-19 Tests and Flu Shots
The City of Minneapolis is offering free COVID-19 tests and flu shots. Testing is encouraged and available to everyone, whether or not they have symptoms. Testing is one of the best ways to stop the spread of COVID-19 and help prevent exposing your loved ones to the virus. You don’t need insurance for the test. Your flu shot is free if you don’t have insurance. If you do have insurance, bring your insurance card for the flu shot.

You can expect to get your test results in about two-three business days. Same day testing can be done for health care workers, first responders and essential workers.

The COVID-19 test is free, and you do not need insurance for the test. If you need medical care but don’t have health insurance, the Minnesota Department of Health offers resources to find low-cost health care or health insurance.

Spanish/English COVID-19 Hotline
Hispanic Advocacy and Community Empowerment through Research (HACER) is partnering with the Minnesota Department of Health to launch a COVID-19 hotline in Spanish and English. This statewide service provides accurate and culturally relevant information regarding COVID-19 to Latinx communities.
Call 651-304-6145 for assistance in Spanish with questions or concerns about where to get tested, what to do while you wait for your results, and how to manage if you've tested positive.

Help Keeping Your Heat On
The Energy Assistance Program (EAP), helps lower-income Minnesotans keep warm during the winter months by helping them pay their energy and heating bills. The Energy Assistance Program can help by providing financial assistance:
- To pay past due energy bills to avoid disconnection
- To purchase fuel for delivery in emergencies
- To repair or replace homeowners old or malfunctioning furnaces.
