Fall/Holiday 2020

Arthur W. Seabury, Jr. recipient of the 2020 Distinguished Alumni Award

Mr. Seabury is a 1975 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School. Since 2003, he has served in the Hogan Preparatory Academy District in Kansas City, Missouri, as a school counselor, ISS instructor, and, since 2013, as the school social worker at Hogan Prep Middle School. He is described by his nominators as a teacher and mentor who is dedicated, iconic, popular with students, generous, caring, who goes above and beyond, is an example to others, and a man of character. “Mr. Seabury is our superhero, and love, compassion, and service are his superpowers!” wrote a fellow educator at Hogan Prep.

In 2019, the Missouri Public Charter School Association recognized Mr. Seabury with an Excellence in Education Award as the Kansas City Charter School Team Leader of the Year.

Mr. Seabury's complete biography and more information about the Sedalia School District Foundation Distinguished Alumni Award--including the 2021 nomination application, nomination instruction sheet, and biographies of all Distinguished Alumni Award recipients—is available on our website.

Year after year the Foundation receives generous support from the community. It's clear that we have true partners in Keeping Education a Priority. We invite alumni and friends to join us in providing additional educational resources. Scholarships are an excellent opportunity for our Smith-Cotton and Whittier High School students to realize their dreams.  Administered by the Sedalia School District Foundation, contributions are tax deductible under the definition of the Internal Revenue code.

Leave a Legacy

Alumni, friends, and supporters have left their mark on SCHS through the purchase of black granite benches, plaques in the gymnasium and performing arts center, handmade ceramic leaves in the student commons, and brick pavers that form a patio near the entrance of the high school. Since the inception of the Touch of Class program in 2010, now named “Leave a Legacy”, the program has raised over $55,000.
