LAUNCH OF THE 2019-2020 ANNUAL REPORT
LANCEMENT DU RAPPORT ANNUEL 2019-2020 
Since 2016, we have been been working to develop and implement an action plan to facilitate access to justice for victims.
 
The federal Fund provides compensation to victims for all remaining costs, in the event of a major crude oil accident where the damages exceed the railway company’s mandatory insurance coverage.

Here are a few highlights for 2019-2020:
  • No accidents involving the Fund, but four accidents monitored by the Administrator
  • $1.76 per tonne collected from shippers of crude oil by rail
  • Over $31 million in levies, a “per-tonne fee” collected this year
  • A total of over $75 million accumulated by the Fund at the end of the fiscal year
  • Advancement of the readiness action plan to provide compensation
  • Successful outreach and engagement throughout Canada
  • Continued engagement with Indigenous groups and organizations, for the development of the compensation process, particularly for the loss of fishing, hunting and gathering opportunities

Depuis 2016, nous travaillons à élaborer et mettre en œuvre un plan d’action afin de favoriser l’accès à la justice pour les victimes.
 
La Caisse fédérale fournit une indemnisation aux victimes pour tous les frais restants, dans l’éventualité que les dommages d’un accident majeur impliquant du pétrole brut excèdent le montant d’assurance obligatoire d’une compagnie de chemin de fer.

Voici quelques points saillants pour l’année 2019-2020
  • Aucun accident ayant impliqué la Caisse, mais quatre accidents surveillés par l’administratrice
  • 1,76 $ par tonne perçu auprès des expéditeurs de pétrole brut par chemin de fer
  • Plus de 31 millions de dollars perçus en contributions (un coût calculé à la tonne) en 2019-2020
  • Un total de plus de 75 millions de dollars accumulés par la Caisse à la fin de l’exercice
  • Progression du plan de préparation en vue de l’indemnisation des demandeurs
  • Succès des activités de relations externes et d’engagement dans l’ensemble du Canada
  • Engagement continu auprès des groupes et organismes autochtones en vue de l’élaboration du processus d’indemnisation, en particulier pour la perte de possibilités de pêche, de chasse ou de cueillette
