Dear Pitt Community,

As you make plans for Thanksgiving and the Holidays, please read our recommendations for departing campus safely as well as information on optional self-collected testing. We have also developed a special tool—a chatbot app, accessible via Single Sign On—that shares shelter-in-place advice based on your unique circumstances.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled update. As of Thursday, Nov. 12, 2020, the Pitt COVID-19 dashboard reflects the following:

» On the Pittsburgh campus, since our last update on Tuesday, Nov. 10:

  • The 5-day moving average of positive cases per day went from 16.8 to 14.2.
  • 45 students have tested positive since last report on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
  • 138 student cases are active in isolation.
  • 2 new faculty or staff cases have been reported.
» On the regional campuses, since our last report:
  • Pitt-Bradford has had no new student cases since our last report.
  • Pitt-Greensburg has had no new student cases since our last report.
  • Pitt-Johnstown has had 5 new student cases since our last report.
  • 1 new faculty/staff case reported at Johnstown since our last report; none at the others.

» All campuses are in a shelter in place.

» The Greensburg and Titusville campuses remain in the Guarded Risk Posture.

» The Bradford, Johnstown and Pittsburgh campuses remain in the Elevated Risk Posture.

Unpacking the data

The situations on our Pittsburgh and Johnstown campuses appear to be stabilizing, but numbers are still high. It is critical that we continue to remain vigilant in our mitigation and containment efforts. The most effective step that we can take right now is to continue to shelter in place diligently. Avoiding close contacts and exposure—not testing—is our best option for stopping the spread of COVID-19 today.

COVID-19 Incubation Timeline

During the shelter-in-place period, students should only leave their residence to attend classes, labs or clinicals in person, pick up food, exercise safely outside, study in the library, work when necessary, and shop for essentials and medical needs.

If you must leave your residence while sheltering in place, we are asking you to limit all close contacts, wear a face covering, maintain a safe physical distance when around other people, and wash your hands frequently. Remember, the data show that COVID-19 spreads in social gatherings.

We are in the home stretch, and you have been amazing partners in keeping our community as safe as possible this term. Let’s finish strong!

Sincerely,

COVID-19 Medical Response Office
