TREA staff have been busy this month writing a business plan for Reimagine Co.’s tool and equipment lending library in the new year as part of Reimagine’s new waste free grocery store space. Sharing allows community to borrow from an inventory of tools to use at home, a pooling of resources to benefit the environment saving us energy, resources, storage space and money.

TREA members have been helping CAN-Bike London with instructor training this fall. This has included programming in Chatham, London and Windsor. Courses are being planned for the spring as well so if you are retired or have flexible hours, you ride year round, and are a safety driven cyclist, please consider this as your opportunity to contribute to community service.

Please note, the Urban League’s recent blogs that focus on the City advisory committee review. Almost all City advisory committees have not met since March while the City discusses their value. TREA has supported Council of Canadian’s London chapter work to make London a Blue Community and they need your help in a final push!
Please visit their online petition on how important water is to our communities.
The Blue Community program is a local and global movement for water security and justice launched in 2009. There are now 44 Blue Communities in Canada including Montreal, Vancouver, Thunder Bay, St. Catharines and Niagara Falls and another 31 around the globe including Paris, Berlin and Los Angeles.

Take personal policy action --
As the federal government moves forward on the ban of some plastics, single-use plastic water bottles are NOT on their list of banned plastics. Neither are q-tips or coffee cups that have plastic liners and plastic lids. Here are 3 things you can do before public comment ends December 9, 2020 shared by our friend Maryanne MacDonald, now living in Ottawa.
- Send a request to The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, email Jonathan.Wilkinson@parl.gc.ca or phone 1-613-995-1225.
- Sign the e-petition #2958 on the Government of Canada website.
- Watch the free viewing of “The Story of Plastic” between November 11 – 24. The Unitarian Fellowship of Ottawa Social Action Cluster, in collaboration with Ottawa Water Study/Action Group (OWSAG), are hosting an online viewing and discussion of this feature length documentary, an informative, in-depth look at the impacts of plastic on our world.
