- Our thoughts and prayers are with Lorraine Kakegamic and her family and friends as they support her son, Ryan Kakegamic as he continues to recover from serious health condition in hospital in Thunder Bay. Lorraine is a Pastoral Relations Liaison in Prairie to Pine Regional Council and attends Immanuel United Church in Winnipeg.
- Our thoughts and prayers are with the Rev. Jim Penhale who is receiving care in Portage District General Hospital after breaking a hip in a fall. His spouse Lorna indicates that greetings would be most welcome and can be forwarded using the “Well Wishes” link at southernhealth.ca
- Our thoughts and prayers are with the Rev. Jenny Sprong and the people of Knox United Church, Roblin as Jenny transitions to retirement on November 30, 2020. We understand that they had a very creative and fun send off for her prior to our entering our Critical Red lockdown restrictions.

On Tuesday, November 10, 2020 the Premier and Chief Public Health Officer of the province of Manitoba announced that the whole province will be moving into RED and further restrictions will come into effect as of Thursday, November 12, 2020 at 12:01 a.m. for the period until December 11,2020. Those restrictions include the closure of several non-essential businesses and the closure churches and other faith based organizations. Details of the public health order are now posted online at:

Notice was received on November 13, 2020 from Marsha Street, Regional Cabinet Office of the following:
Please note that if you are a registered charity or Non-Profit organization you may be eligible for the newly announced Manitoba bridge grant of $5000.00 to those places ordered to close during this time. The informationabout eligibility, commonly asked questions and the application form are available through the following link:

The application period is between November 16 and December 15, 2020.
Having sent the information available to Erik Mathiesen, Chief Financial Officer of the United Church of Canada for comment and direction based on the organization structures within the United Church of Canada, Erik indicated that it seems that Communities of Faith are indeed eligible. Whether applications are made by separate congregations in a multi-point pastoral charge or the pastoral charge depends on which entity has a Charity Number. Some governments want a letter from the denomination about how the United Church is organized so if that request comes please notify Judy Hare at the Regional Office and we can provide that for communities of faith if needed.

About Annual Meetings of New
Communities of Faith / Pastoral Charges
for 2020 before December 30, 2020
The Executive Minister, Shannon McCarthy reminds all congregations that they need to have an electronic Annual meeting in whatever way works best for them. Given the restrictions in gathering sizes presently in the province of Manitoba this meeting could be held by Conference Call or zoom. Meetings need to tend the minimum list that is in the Manual, this is required by CRA. The agenda can be very short and just do the things listed in section B.5.2 the Manual (page 61). The requirement for quorum for an Annual Meeting is listed at section B.5.5 (page 63/64) the most that is required is 20 people if the congregation is over 100 people otherwise it is 10 (between 30-99) or 1/3 if it is less than 30 members. The Regional Council has a ZOOM account that those who do not have access to one within their congregational membership can access for use for Annual Meetings. This can be booked on a first come first service basis for Annual Congregational Meetings through Cherry Abad ( cabad@united-church.ca) and each of the staff have Conference Call accounts that could be booked on a first come first serve basis for use for congregational meetings during these times restricting face to face gatherings. Please contact a staff person for that information. Please book these BEFORE sending out notices of your meeting.

Canada Revenue Charity Returns 2020 New
due by December 31, 2020
Earlier in 2020 the Canada Revenue Agency extended the deadline for submission of the 2019 Charity Returns with a form T3010. Just a reminder that those 2019 Charity Returns ARE due in by December 31, 2020. The failure to file these returns can result in your Charity Status being revoked and among other things an inability then for your Community of Faith to issue charity receipts for any donations. The governing body of your Community of Faith should check with your Treasurer that this important piece of work has been completed.

2020 Assessments New
As part of the steps to help Communities of Faith cope with cash flow during the pandemic, the United Church indicated that payment of assessments could be deferred or postponed. Many congregations elected to defer scheduled assessment payments during the early days of COVID-19. Deferred assessments are still payable. To reinstate preauthorized payments e-mail assessments@united-church.ca
Those making assessment payments by cheque should make the cheque payable to “The United Church of Canada” and include your M&S Number and “2020 Assessment” in the memo line of the cheque so it is credited to the correct account. Please mail your payments to:

Mission and Service Fund Donations 2020 New
| Mission and Service Fund. Some communities of faith forward donations received locally to the national church at intervals during the year and others traditionally hold them until the end of the year. This year to manage cash flow many congregations opted to do the latter. A reminded that any donations received for Mission and Service Fund are considered designated givings and must be forwarded to the national church preferably by the end of the calendar year or as soon as possible thereafter. Monies in the Mission and Service Fund are used for mission and ministry of the United Church in Canada and around the world. These are stressful times when ministry personnel are attempting to fulfill the tasks associated with their role and calling and find safe and creative ways to keep congregations connected and spiritually nurtured. For many the time it takes to draw upon the gifts and skills of others to carry out some tasks and the learning curve around new technologies to enable meetings, study groups, worship and virtual coffee times to happen is significant. Ministry Personnel are encouraged amid all that is being required of them, to tend to self care and seek out the support of others if and when it might be helpful. The Committee on Ministry Personnel Support of the Prairie to Pine Regional Council recently sent out an email about a program offering the listening ear of some experienced retired/retained colleagues, the MP2MP Connectors. Every two weeks on Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m., Ministry Personnel are offered the opportunity to check in with one another through a ZOOM connection. The next one is December 1st, 2020 with the link for the connection available on the P2P website under the events calendar or in the Weekly News. |

The Moderator of the United Church of Canada, The Rev. Richard Bott is planning a Blue Christmas Services for December 09, 2020. Please stay tuned for further details which will be shared when they become available.
When the lay leaders from various Communities of Faith met via ZOOM last Tuesday and the Ministry Personnel met yesterday, there were some discussions about how to do Advent and Christmas in these pandemic times. There was discussion about various resources available online through the United Church website in Advent Unwrapped including a 2020 Advent Calendar, instructions for making an Advent wreath, various liturgies including a couple involving multiple hymns or carols that can be used for services at home or for those either worshiping in person or sharing worship with their communities through email, mailings, live streaming or YouTube taping. Transgender Day of Remembrance, New
Friday November 20
Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is internationally recognized on November 20th every year. This day raises public awareness of hate crimes against transgender people; it is a day to publicly mourn and honour the lives of those who might otherwise be erased and forgotten. 2020 is now the worst year on record for the murder of trans people worldwide. TDOR began in honour of Rita Hester, whose murder on November 28th, 1998 sparked the "Remembering Our Dead" web project. Her murder — like most anti-transgender murder cases — has yet to be solved. In 2020, as always, trans women who are Black, Indigenous and women of colour are the majority of those who we must, yet again, name as victims of hatred and violence. Fort Garry United Church Safe Reopening Plan
This reopening plan is the result of a small ad hoc committee, struck by the Leadership Team, whose efforts were extraordinary at tailoring a plan to suit the specific needs of Fort Garry United Church. Our response to COVID-19 was quick and we switched to worshiping using Zoom on March 29, 2020 right at the beginning of the pandemic. Out of concern for the safety of our congregation, we have not returned to in person worship services, even when over the summer our cases in Manitoba dropped to nearly zero. Using the results of a congregation wide survey to garner ideas, as well as our Provincial Health Authorities, and United Church of Canada recommendations, this Safe Reopening Plan was developed. We will be ready when it is safe to return to in person worship. |

An update form Rock Lake United Church Camp
November 6, 2020
Dear Friends,
At our last meeting, the Board of Directors discussed the importance of keeping the congregations affiliated with Rock Lake United Church Camp more informed. We hope the following letter provides some insights as to what has been happening at Rock Lake Camp.
This year would have marked our 135th anniversary. We had a fundraiser and Open House celebration planned. Unfortunately, because of COVID-19 we were unable to proceed, as the Camp had to close due to government restrictions and for health and safety concerns. The closure impacted the Camp in many ways. Although we were approved for grants from both the Winnipeg Foundation and the Hometown Green Team, we were unable to accept them as they were contingent upon camp being open. Regardless of having no income, we still had expenses to cover, such as property taxes and insurance, as well as the usual utilities and maintenance.

Greenshield Announcement
This past week a notice went out from Greenshield, the Benefits provider for the United Church of Canada to all members informing them of new requirements related to its Online Services. It requires members to log into their account and to share banking information. A few calls were received at the Prairie to Pine Regional Council Office inquiring about its legitimacy. Having connect with General Council the office, the Pastoral Relations Convener wants to assure the constituency that it is a legitimate invitation.

Livestreaming Everything?!

Shared Recording Music (hymns/anthems/slideshows)
Many congregations have been recording music (hymns/anthems/slideshows) for use in on line worship. Sharing our work is an effective way to be good stewards of our time and talents. A small number of congregations have been sharing files through Drop Box and are now inviting others to do the same. (there is no cost to upload or download from drop box). There is no obligation to contribute material, but if you have music which can legally be shared (copyright is to be respected) that would be great. We are working on a simple spreadsheet which will serve as an index to the materials available.
