Read Matthew 25.31-46

Devise with the children two simple noises and actions for the sheep and goats. Ask them to make those noises and actions any time either sheep or goats are mentioned in the story.

Talk together 

• What did the people described in the story as sheep have in common?
• What was the last thing someone did that made you feel cared for?
• Can you think of anyone you could show some kindness to this week?

Make 

Design a sheep mask and think about what might make a person a sheep

You will need: paper plates, scissors, glue, cotton wool, pens.

• Give each child a paper plate. Help them to cut eye holes in the middle, a suitable size that will make a mask (pre-cut these for younger children).
• Encourage everyone to glue cotton wool onto most of their paper plate surface, leaving space to draw on ears and a mouth.
• Ask the children to think about the characteristics that the sheep in the story had and to then write those on the back of their mask, e.g. kind, caring, compassionate. Explain that any time they hold the mask to their face, they’ll be reminded of those things.

Would you rather            

Play a game of ‘Would you rather’ – examples for questions. If they chose option A, ask them to stand on the right; if they choose option B, ask them to stand on the left. Remind them to make their choices instinctively. Make the last choice about choosing between doing the kind thing and the easy thing. Talk about how so often we choose the easy thing without thinking but it’s important to ask the Holy Spirit to help us to instinctively be kind, even when it is difficult.

Being Kind
Practise being kind by writing a list of 10 things that you as a family can do this week to help each other and others 

Pray 

Lord Jesus,
you reached down low
(reach down and touch toes)
to help us up.
(stretch up tall)
Make us the kind of people
who hold out our hands to others.
(shake hands with person next to you)
Amen.

We pray for everyone who is hungry, thirsty, cold, sick or alone.
Help us not to just think about ourselves
but to see how we can help those around us.
Amen.
