Music Citizens!
Yes indeed, much has occurred since our last email. We’ve elected a new leader and despite chaos, a transition is in motion. The unflagging Covid-19 pandemic is continuing to challenge our country as cold weather and holiday season sets in. At Horizon Records we soldier on wearing our masks, hand sanitizing and staying as positive as we can through all this mess feeling grateful for working and living around music. The good news is we’ve just acquired a couple of huge record collections that are swelling and overwhelming our bins and storage areas as we clean, curate, price and stock out some absolutely amazing blessings of vintage recordings. The magnitude of this is so beefy there will be astounding goodies in all genres hittin’ the bins every week well into the new year. Some great fun to enjoy as the holidays approach and winter folds over us into January. 
And yes, Black Friday doth approach. We are closed on Thursday for Thanksgiving, and then we are open this coming Friday at 8am, with all the current rules and limitations: masks, hand sanitizer, and a store limit of 10 people at a time ( 2 out, 2 more in kinda thing). The newest chapter for Dirty Projectors is a sequence of five four-song EPs. The first four EPs feature lead vocals by a different band member, the final EP features vocals by all members. Each song collection has a theme: Maia's Window Opens is acoustic and folky; Felicia's Flight Tower is super future, both soulful and electronic. Kristin's Earth Crisis is cut-up orchestral collage - looped, pitch-shifted, digitally deconstructed - and Dave's Super Joao is four-track bossa nova. On Ring Road, the final EP, we here from combined voices in the Stone Soup style we normally expect on Dirty Projectors records.

Things are not aways awesome, in fact if you read Loveless's lyrics you realize she's really been through the wringer. But when you listen to her songs you hear some major chords that add a touch of sweetness to this bitter season she's enduring. Daughter was recorded over the course of a few weeks in Chicago with Tom Shick at The Loft (Wilco's studio) and finds them in control of their signature heartland, barroom sound, while also stretching to new places.

Yes, Lambchop has long established themselves as the weirdest country band in Nashville and this six song, cover album reinforces that claim. Take for instance the first track which is a 13 minute version of Wilco's Reservations. The song as we know it ends around the 3 minute mark but there's another 10 minutes of drone, piano, sound collage which if you remember Wilco's closer from Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, it's stylistically accurate. They continue with songs made famous by George Jones and The Supremes but the highlight is a warblely take on Stevie Wonder's Golden Lady that sounds like it would fit in on 2019's This (Is What I Wanted To Tell You) or 2016's Flotus.
