The Faith Journey Continues...

The following was Anne Ewing's witness to the congregation at last Sunday's 10:00 am service.

Pastor Cho asked me to speak to you today during our Commitment Sunday. Two years in a row now!

The topic for my witness today was going in one direction but when I read over my notes, it didn’t seem to make the right points. I am going through some difficult times right now and my message was very dark. I want to shine a light into that darkness today instead. So, I have changed directions in my message, and I hope some of this resonates with you.

Last week, I was having some carpentry repair work done on my house
by a man named Donald. (He was replacing some rotten trim on the front door to my house and windows and other odd jobs that I couldn’t do.)  At the end of the day, we would look over his progress and discuss what he was doing. I commented to him that he did excellent quality work and that he was very talented. He laughed it off and then he asked me what I did for a living, so I showed him a copy of the military magazine that I design and produce. He was impressed and said, “Wow, that’s great, that is a real talent, I could never do anything like that!”

But then I thought about it and said, “We both have talents and abilities, they are just different.”  I could never do the amazing carpentry work that he did so easily, day in and day out and I told him just that. He’s a very good person.

Reflecting on today’s gospel reading of Matthew, have you ever wondered about the different amounts given in this story?  Some got 5, some got 2 or 1?

Why has God blessed us all with different abilities and talents?
All of our talents are a gift from God. Just as our breath, our beating hearts, our very existence, they are all truly a gift. God gives us each talents according to our abilities.

Even though our talents may not be equal, – because we are all different– what is important is that God rejoices equally in our efforts.
What matters is our faithfulness to our Lord and Savior.
What matters is what we do with those talents to glorify Christ Jesus.
Don’t think that you don’t have anything to give.
We all have the ability to shine our light.

“To everyone who has, will more be given.” Use your God given talents. So ask yourself “What talents do I have and how am I serving the Lord with them?”

Take the opportunity now to shine your light and be faithful to our Lord by being faithful Stewards to his Church.

Advent Study
God Came Near
Thurs, Nov 19
at 7:00 pm via Zoom

Adult Education team announces an Advent Study on Thursday nights at 7:00 pm via Zoom.  The meetings will be based on RightNow Media's video God Came Near by Max Lucado.  There will be a short discussion following the video.  Dates are Nov 19, Dec 3, 10, 17 and Jan 7.

In the midst of the gloom of winter, the darkest and coldest of seasons, Christians still wait with great anticipation for the happiest season of all, Advent. Travel back in time and relive the coming of Christ to Earth, as He gives up His throne next to God the Father to enter this world as a baby born in a manger. Filmed at England's beautiful Blockley Church, join acclaimed author and pastor Max Lucado as he provides insights on the season of Advent.

Please scroll down in this email if you have not visited the RightNow Media collection for a link which will take you to the site.  Once there, you can explore the thousands of videos and resources available to you.

Let us know by Friday, Nov 20 if you, or any of your friends, would like a meal (delivery or pick up) by contacting the church office at 203-374-6528 or fairfieldgrace@sbcglobal.net

If anyone would like to contribute homemade baked goods, individually packaged, for this meal delivery, contact co-leader Lee Del Vecchio at 203-374-2130 or leedelvecchio@icloud.com by Friday, Nov 20.
