Hi <<First Name>>,

These days, abnormal seems to be the new normal. As a connector between private sector companies, startups, global members and partners, nonprofits, associations, academic partnerships and public municipal utilities, we know the challenges for each group have been unique. But 2020 will soon be in the rearview mirror and I remain optimistic about brighter days ahead.

As such, we continue to focus on what we do best: making connections, supporting water tech innovation and championing water stewardship initiatives across North America.

Applications are open for BREW 2.0, our newly launched, next-gen accelerator program. Early next year, we’re excited to ‘virtually’ welcome up to 10 market-ready water tech innovators and their teams to help them scale and grow, with targeted training and introductions to potential customers and funders in the marketplace. With registration closing in two short weeks, I invite you to learn more or share the opportunity with worthy candidates in your network.

In international economic development news, Karen Frost and Beverley Ferrara collaborated with the Water Alliance team on a market visit to The Water Campus in The Netherlands, enabling TWC Members to explore international market opportunities. Eight Water Council member companies virtually ‘visited’ The Water Campus, presented their technology and are now participating in B2B matchmaking meetings. We just opened registration for Water Council member companies for a virtual visit to Spain on December 15. If interested, you can find details and register here.

We’ve nearly wrapped season one of our 10-part Water Sessions podcast series and water stewardship remains in the spotlight. In episode 8, David Trimner of Miltrim Farms, the first dairy farm in North America to be Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) Certified, shares what can be achieved through good water stewardship and innovative farming principles. And episode 9 features the Fund for Lake Michigan’s Vicki Elkin and the Harbor District’s Lilith Fowler, discussing how water-related stakeholder collaboration led to the development of an urban ‘Water District’ model based on AWS principles. I’m proud of the collaborative redevelopment work being done in Milwaukee’s Harbor District that, even more importantly, also serves as a water stewardship best practice for other regions to follow.

On the topic of water stewardship, it continues to climb its way up the list of corporate sustainability priorities. If you’re looking to expand your water stewardship activities or expertise, AWS is offering its Standard Systems Training on Dec. 8 to 10, the final opportunity this year. Learn more here.

On a closing note, after the Nov. 1 wrap of our fourth round of Tech Challenge, I was elated to learn that our corporate sponsors had determined that they wanted to meet 16 of 18 total applicants to explore each’s respective water quality sensing and/or remediation solution. Our team was delighted that roughly 90 percent of the applicants were new discoveries for our sponsors!

Just as we attempt to serve all of our members, we strive to give our Tech Challenge sponsors the ‘easy button’ to source new innovation pathways and help water tech entrepreneurs find new partner opportunities. If you are a global water tech company looking to widen your R&D pipeline, now would be a great time to connect, before round 5 launches next spring.

Until next month,

Dean
