Iota Biosciences, a company invested in by the Berkeley SkyDeck Fund, will be acquired by Astellas Pharma! Iota was founded in 2017, and develops unprecedentedly ultra-small battery-free, wireless implantable medical devices.

Kintsugi

Kintsugi (Fall ’20 Cohort) is deploying its Voice Biomarker API to score clinical depression and anxiety from less than a minute of freeform speech across UnitedHealthcare call centers. Kintsugi provides clinician augmentation, real-time triage, and helps unlock billions in annual Medicare revenue by closing mental healthcare gaps. The team just completed its FDA Breakthrough Designation submission and is excited to scale access to mental healthcare with smarter infra.

RJH Biosciences Inc.

The leading transfection reagents from RJH (Fall ‘20 Cohort) are now available in Europe via the biomedical reagent distributor Tebu-Bio. With this exciting development, the RJH team is one step closer to their mission of realizing the full potential of gene medicine for human health by developing vehicles to effectively deliver nucleic acids.

AmpX Technologies, Inc. 

AmpX (Fall ‘20 Cohort) has received over $1 million through NSF SBIR Phase I and Phase II Awards and a SAFE investment from Genovation Cars Inc to develop the world’s first electrically integrated onboard battery charger for electric vehicles. This innovative solution extends the range of all-electric vehicles, reduces carbon emissions, and cuts costs for manufacturers.

Fortiphyte

Fortiphyte (Fall ‘20 HotDesk) received a $650,000 Phase II USDA SBIR grant to develop new disease-resistant tomato varieties, after a successful Phase I project demonstrating disease resistance traits in laboratory and field trials. The Phase II project focuses on combining several traits, improve yield, reduce production cost, and improve the environmental sustainability of tomato cultivation.

uPlasma 

uPlasma (Fall ‘20 HotDesk) recently employed cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) to successfully inactivate SARS-CoV-2 on various surfaces, including plastic, metal, cardboard, and football leather. Their published results demonstrate the potential of CAP as a safe, green, effective means to prevent virus transmission for a wide range of high-contact surfaces. This is the first-ever demonstration of CAP inactivation of SARS-CoV-2, marking a significant milestone in the pandemic and a new opportunity for the scientific, engineering, and medical communities.

Clarity Movement Co.

Clarity Movement (Fall '20 HotDesk) is taking a stand against air pollution. By forging partnerships to deploy a network of 50 air quality monitors in Richmond, California, the team is  transforming the way Richmond’s 100K residents interact with air quality and empowering the community to take the lead on reducing air pollution.

Dailies App

The Tech Panda did a deepdive spread on Dailies (Fall ‘20 HotDesk), celebrating the EdTech platform’s ability to bridge the gap between parent and student in a work-from-home world. DailiesPods provides virtual lessons by world class educators, the Dailies App engages students through gamified micro-lessons, and both products provide parents meaningful insights into their children's educational journey.

Geopogo

SkyDeck has proven an inflection point for Geopogo (Spring ‘20 HotDesk), whose transformative software utilizes AR to streamline the design and construction process. Thanks to SkyAdvisors, Geopogo’s seed raise is advancing with angel investors from Frontier Angels, Sand Hill Angels, Berkeley Angels, North Bay Angels, and Band of Angels. The company is growing in size and strength, with 20 new interns from UC Berkeley as well as a new patent!
