Reminder: Importance of Sheltering in Place
The COVID-19 Medical Response Office has offered advice to help protect your family, friends, and loved ones as you plan to travel at the end of the fall term.
1. Limit close contacts. The safest path you can take is to limit all close contacts, wear a face covering, and maintain a safe physical distance when around other people.
There is a real risk of infecting loved ones who will be gathering for Thanksgiving this month. If you expect to be around someone who is susceptible to falling seriously ill from the virus, you should combine sheltering in place with masking and physical distancing even within your pod or household.
As a reminder: Your pod is usually defined by your physical living space. For students living in on-campus residence halls, 4 to 6 people—and not your whole floor—form a pod. If you have close contacts beyond your pod, you should limit it to 1 or 2 highly trusted members of that group during the shelter-in-place period.
2. Interact virtually. Both on Pitt campuses and nationwide, social activities in the community have acted as a significant source of virus transmission. Conduct group work for classes and student activities virtually. Do not attend non-academic events and activities unless absolutely necessary.
3. Use the Daily Health Check app. Complete your check in everyday that you are sheltering in place.
