Hello Runners,
It is very interesting how often the Apostle Paul uses running and athletic terms in his Biblical writings. This morning I read this verse: "You were running well; who hindered you from obeying the truth?" (Galatians 5:7). Literally, he is talking about people whose truth of "salvation by grace" was being hindered by those teaching that one had to do the "works of the Law" for salvation.
His use of the running metaphor becomes even more clear to runners when we also understand that the literal translation of hindered is a Greek racing term of someone "cutting in" on you, causing you to stumble or at least lose your good stride.
For today, this can be a reference to anything that would hinder us in our obedience to Jesus and His word. That would cover a lot of ground for most all of us - many things cause us to stumble or lose our stride spiritually. Go ahead... think of what are some of the main hindrances for you. Now think, how can you deal with (get rid of, remove, etc.) those hindrances so that you can get back to "running well"?
"Running well" physically and spiritually both demand much discipline and, really, just plain hard work. By God's grace, let's keep making the needed effort to run well.
Be "brighter"!
Noah
