Senior Safety Line: Providing Support in the Time of Covid-19
Webinar - Thursday, November 19 12:00 - 1:00pm

When seniors, their caregivers and family are seeking support in situations where safety and well-being are the issue, they often do not know where to turn for help. This has been particularly evident, during the COVID-19 pandemic, as seniors are more isolated, alone, feeling vulnerable or experiencing abuse and need someone to talk to, for support or help to navigate available resources.

Elder Abuse Prevention (ON), in partnership with the Assaulted Women's Helpline (AWHL), invites you to join us for this informative webinar to learn more about how the Seniors Safety Line (SSL) provides information, referrals and supports to seniors, caregivers and agencies who are reaching out, particularly in situations where someone is at significant risk of abuse or harm.

This session will clarify the role SSL plays in supporting the community – who should call the SSL, what to expect (confidentiality, anonymity, emotional support) when to call, the type of supports that are provided on the phone, etc. As well participants will learn about the changing needs of seniors since the onset of the pandemic. Speakers will be providing key, important strategies to employ when preparing safety plans for seniors at risk and or for those who are even more vulnerable during COVID-19.

COPO-COFFEE Presentation
Presented by Constable Michael Malachowsky
Niagara Regional Police Services

Thursday, November 26 at 11:00 am
Seniors are the most frequent targets of fraud scams. Fraudsters target seniors, as they may be lonely, willing to listen and are more trusting than younger individuals. Many fraud schemes against seniors are performed over the telephone, door-to-door or through advertisements. Seniors are prime targets to schemes attributed to credit cards, sweepstakes or contests, charities, health products, magazines, home improvements, equity skimming, investments, banking or wire transfers, and insurance.
Please join us on Thursday, November 26th at 11:00 am for a free Copo-Coffee presentation via Zoom by Mike Malachowsky.
Topics that will be covered are:
Current Scams and how to protect yourself
Identity Theft
Frauds - Credit, Bank, Door to Door Sales & the Internet
