NINTH EDITION: Claymobile is ZOOMing into your living room and virtual classrooms!

The Claymobile team is having a blast connecting with students in a virtual space. Our typical residencies and workshops have fully transitioned to Zoom and are utilizing clay kits with both air dry clay and traditional clay. Students this fall have made coil bowls, pinch pot pumpkins, slab name plates, animal head sculptures, and more!
Our new program offerings are outlined on the Virtual Claymobile page of our website and are briefly described below.
- Workshops/Residencies with Air Dry Clay Kits - Workshop or residency on Zoom with air dry clay kits. Kits use a combination of air dry clay and model magic and include basic sculpting tools, paint pots, and brushes for decorating.
- Virtual Crafting Workshops/Residencies - Virtual crafting sessions held on Zoom utilizing materials participants likely have access to at home. These are typically held in a webinar format and can accommodate up to 100 participants.
- Coil Bowl or Name Plate Workshops with Kits - In these workshops, a teaching artist will lead participants step-by-step through creating a coil bowl or name plate using traditional clay materials. Projects will be collected after the workshop for glazing and firing in our kilns.
If none of these option seem like the right fit, please contact us about creating customized programming. In-person programming is also available in some settings. We look forward to seeing you soon!
Sincerely,
Megan Millman Lasiter

Looking for a creative virtual holiday workshop?
The Claymobile team created ornament kits that will be available for purchase in our shop starting in December, or available as a virtual workshop for students, colleagues, or friends! Each kit will include 4 bisque ornaments in white clay (1 tree, 1 snowflake, 1 ornament-shape, and 1 star), 1 strip of paint pots (washable or acrylic), 2 paint brushes, and string for hanging ornaments.
Please contact Megan Millman Lasiter for more information and for scheduling workshops. All workshops will take place on Zoom and should be scheduled a minimum of 2 weeks in advance. Kits can be delivered to a single location. Shipping is available for an extra fee.
A holiday or winter sign kit in lieu of ornaments is also available for workshops only.

On November 1, The Clay Studio partnered with Glen Foerd on the Delaware for a socially-distant platter making workshop. Participants went on a short nature walk around the property to collect items for making impressions on plates or bowls. We had a blast!

Our Clay, Play, Read program has also gone virtual! Workshops are wrapping up in partnership with the Kensington Library, but our Cecil B. Moore Library program will be starting soon. Cecil B. Moore neighbors, visit our Clay, Play, Read page to learn more about the program and sign up!

On November 7, The Clay Studio participated in CraftNOW Creates, a giant virtual crafting session hosted by CraftNOW. Participants could pick up goodie bags full of supplies at locations throughout Philadelphia. Our very own Teaching Artist, Shannon Jones even hosted the event!

Coming this winter, look for our virtual Claymobile Creations exhibition. This year our show will be fully online and will celebrate the work our Claymobile students are doing virtually. All coil bowls made by students this fall will be featured in the show. This bowl was made by a student at Mayfair Community Center.
