Survival Guide isn’t just another radio show. It is a fight for community,
land, and for the right to exist unapologetically.

In 2018, Lorna Munro and Joel Sherwood Spring got together to create a show
that would chronicle the gentrification of Redfern and Waterloo.

This week we hear from Lorna Munro, one half of Survival Guide and learn
about the rich and vibrant community fighting back - one episode at a time.

Step into Waraburra Nura (Happy Wanderer's Place)

On Real World Gardener

The wonderful Marianne Cannon from Real World Gardener will be partnering with UTS's Public Medicinal Plant Garden, Waraburra Nura (Happy Wanderer’s Place) which is a space for visitors to connect to Country in an urban environment. The garden utilizes combination planting, an Indigenous agricultural practice which enhances the rich medicinal value of each plant, and all of the plants in Waraburra Nura are native to Wa’ran (Sydney) and have been cultivated by Darug, D’harawal and Gadigal peoples for generations - Marianne will be replaying a set of podcasts  in her program over the next 9 weeks, produced in conjunction with the Garden called “Waraburra Nura: Aunty Fran Bodkin and Uncle Bruce Pascoe in Conversation".

This podcast features agriculturist and researcher Uncle Bruce Pascoe in conversation with botanist Aunty Fran Bodkin: who meet for the first time at Waraburra Nura to exchange ideas on different environmental issues and share their wealth of Indigenous Knowledges. The questions in this series have been developed by a variety of UTS academics and professionals working in the fields of horticulture, food production, sustainability and climate research. They were recorded and produced by Yaegl filmmaker and Industry Associate Professor, JIIER, Pauline Clague and sound artist Missi Mel Pesa, with funding from the James N. Kirby Foundation.

In the following episodes, Aunty Fran and Uncle Bruce chat about plants, Indigenous Knowledges, seasons, and how to achieve our goals of sustainability by introducing Indigenous plants back into in our backyards.

Make sure you've got Real World Gardener on your schedule or program guide if you haven't already in order to catch this great new segment, thanks to UTS ART and Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research.

Real World Gardener plays on Saturdays at 09:32 AEDT and is available via satellite, DDN capture and download.

The Console Wars are about to begin!

Join Checkpoint to see which new gen console is the winner

We know we've mentioned Checkpoint in the newsletter a couple of times lately but that's because it's the most exciting time of year for video games, and is ESPECIALLY exciting as it is new console season! Both the new generation Xbox and PlayStation consoles have landed and on Checkpoint they will be breaking down the perks, the quirks, the best and blurst bits of each one.

Which console will reign supreme? Which will be the victorious system everyone will be gaming on? Will they both be equally matched? Even if you don't have one of them yet (or on it's way covered in bubble wrapped express posted to your door), you can hear all the hype right here on Checkpoint.

Checkpoint also have a website where they post news and reviews and also have a podcast discussing the best in gaming. They've already done a write up of one of the new consoles here, but make sure you bookmark their site in order to read when the other review gets posted - if not, just tune in next Tuesday from 19:04 AEDT to get your gaming wars fix!

Disclaimer: Checkpoint are not sponsored by PlayStation or Xbox or any other major gaming console (or anyone for that matter, seriously) - they are just fully into all things gaming and give 100% honest unbiased reviews on the consoles, platforms and games they discuss.

Stepping back to 1997

On this week's It's Time!

Sharmaine writes our eNews every week, and as a product of the 90's she absolutely flipped her lid this week when she heard the Spice Girls on the CRN program 'It's Time'.

It's Time explores the best of the charts from this week… in a year between 1960 and 1999, with detailed info about the song, its place in the charts, as well as the band behind the iconic tune with hosts Barry and William.
This week had all the goods with the Spice Girls (which I have mentioned twice now) Regurgitator, Chumbawamba, Silverchair, The Verve, John Farnham & Human Nature, Aqua! But mainly I wrote this for the Spice Girls. I mean come on, my fifth birthday cake had the Spice Girls on it!

You can checkout the best in the charts and take a nolstalgic trip through the years with It's Time every Monday at 20:00 AEDT.

Some great content to listen back to
