As the days draw in, the clocks roll back and the days shorten we have some Crescent News to keep you entertained on these winter evenings.

Crescent College Past Pupils Union Roll of Honour Recipient 2020 - Donald Mc Donnell PhD.

The year has been a most unusual one and with the global pandemic the role of those in the fields of medicine have never had a greater importance.

It is with great pleasure that we announce this years recipient .. Donald McDonnell from the Crescent class of 1979.

Unfortunately due to the cancellation of the Annual Dinner and COVID restrictions we were unable to present the award in person but hurdles were overcome and the award made it across the Atlantic into his hands.

Crescent Quiz Launches

Due to the unfortunate COVID-lockdown cancellation of the Crescent Pub Quiz earlier in the year we know that all you Crescent quizzers are itching to have your knowledge tested.

The online quizzes feature different decades of Crescent and a smattering of general knowledge. We will have a number of Quizzes in the coming weeks.

The first Quiz is from the 1980s, feel free to share your score on Facebook and why not share or challenge your classmates from Crescent to have a go!!

Jesuit Alumni Christmas Webinar

Following their first event in October the JAI are having their next Webinar on Thursday 10th December @ 7PM.

Jesuit Alumni Ireland is an organisation working to represent the 6 Irish SJ PPUs (Belvedere, Clongowes, Crescent, Gonzaga, Colaiste Iognaid and Mungret) on an international stage. Email jai500th@gmail.com to register your place and spread the word.

Past Pupil's Documentary Film gathers international awards

Greg Lynch (Crescent class of 1981) left Ireland for the USA where he graduated from San Francisco State University with a BA in Film. He spent 25 years in Los Angeles building sets in the motion picture industry working on films ranging from Basic Instinct to Batman Returns and Mr and Mrs. Smith.

He decided he'd rather produce films than pound nails on them, so in 2016, he produced the documentary about the amazing life of Hungarian Saber fencer and coach George Piller. Turning his hand to directing but staying in the field of fencing, in 2018 his directorial debut is the movie Stro: The Michael D’Asaro Story co-directed with Doug Nichols.

Stro is the story of Michael D’Asaro who was a legendary American Saber Fencer and Coach and is currently on the festival circuit around the world. Recently, Stro won Best Documentary Feature at the Marina Del Rey Film Festival and Best Documentary USA at the Director's Cut International Film Festival. We wish Greg continued success.

CRESCENT BOOK CLUB

We know its not actually a BOOK but it is in PRINT!

A member of the Crescent class of 1962, Fr Liam O'Connell SJ will be well known to several generations of past pupils. A long-time enthusiastic amateur photographer his hobby has taken on a new focus during the 2020 lockdowns with his images capturing the beauty of life on our very doorstep.

Messenger Publications (Irish Jesuit publishing house) have chosen 12 of his photographs for their 2021 Calendar.
