Dear comrades,
As you know, Jura is a non-profit project run by unpaid volunteers. For the past 43 years Jura has survived on the anarchist principle of mutual aid – people freely contributing their labour, time, and money out of the desire to build something that benefits all of us.
About half the funds for maintaining Jura as an anarchist social centre come from book sales. The rest is covered by donations from collective members and supporters. In the past we've organised community dinners, film nights, and shows to help us raise these funds. Right now public events at Jura are not an option: we just don't have the space to provide the four square metres per person required to keep everyone safe from COVID-19.
That's why we're asking those Jura supporters who can afford to, to join our "Friends of Jura" program. Friends of Jura contribute $10–$20 per month towards Jura's maintenance costs. In return they receive a free Fanya Baron Library membership, and a 20% discount on everything in the shop: books, pamphlets, zines, t-shirts and more.
As an extra thank you, everyone who joins up before the end of 2020 will go in the draw to win one of three Jura gift hampers.
