PEOPLE'S CHOICE 2020
Closes 11.59pm Sunday 22nd November.

Voting: 23rd Nov – 29th Nov.

As advised last week, the People's Choice event is open for images. You can enter ONE image, the details were in last week's newsletter, but this a reminder.

The spirit of the event is to showcase what you have been shooting during this unusual year, especially if you have tried something new and have come up with images that you have been really pleased with. While you are free to enter any image and are not restricted to entering an image that you have entered in an evaluation/competition this year, we strongly encourage you to abide by the spirit of the event.

This is to let you know how you can record votes for your selection of the best two images.

Voting opens when the entry period closes. So you will be able to vote from 23rd November to 11:59pm on 29th November. The winner will be announced in the year's final meeting on 2nd December. You can go to the competitions tab on the VP site and then select "Vote on Competition Images". This will present you with the competitions to choose from(this will be the only one). This will then go to the images. Voting is straightforward . Please go to the help tab and select "Videos" then "Guide for all Members" then "Voting on Competition Images". This short video will give you all the details. There are three ways voting can be set, we are simply using tick boxes and at around the 1min 30sec mark our voting method is detailed. You can vote for your two favourite images with simple tick boxes. Note that you are not voting for them in any order, all votes carry the same weight. Job done!

If you have any problems please contact me.

Hi all KPS Members,

Well, Knox Council has worked out a way forward with the Knox Nature Discovery Passport.
They are planning an On-Line launch on Thursday 26 Nov – at 4:30 in the afternoon.

Attached is an invitation,  registration details  and the zoom meeting link details …  and we are all invited.
Registration is required.

As stated below, Council has an on-line gallery presentation lined up for the launch, and of course they have copies of the booklet but I’m not sure how they plan to distribute those.
I’m not sure if the gallery presentation will exactly match the images in the booklet because Council might be able to include additional images in the gallery than could be accommodated in the booklet.

Apparently they have tried to include images from all of our members who submitted. Let’s hope they were able to achieve that.

How exciting!

Cheers,
Richard.

Please join us to celebrate the launch of the Knox Nature Discovery Passport, which was created in partnership with the Knox Photographic Society.
A launch highlight will be a virtual gallery tour of the stunning images in the passport, taken by members of the Knox Photographic Society.

The passport showcases 50 bushland reserves across Knox. Some of the reserves you may be familiar with but there are others tucked away, hidden treasures that you are yet to discover.
Suggestions are provided in the passport on the best reserves to:
View wildlife & wildflowers
Explore informal walking paths & Access friendly paths
Explore family & child friendly spaces

Adams was renowned as a master printer and in 2012 I was lucky enough to seen an exhibition of prints with many made by Adams himself.
I indulged in the analog version of pixel peeping (when my eyesight still allowed getting up very close to something) and yes, he was a great printer. A huge tonal range with blacks that weren't clogged at all. Very impressive stuff.

Syllabus 2021

Our Castlemaine trip 2021 has been tentatively booked for 19,20 and 21 March 2021.

Sea Lake trip tentatively booked for September 2021 TBC.

Likely set subjects in 2021 could be “Night Time”, “In Bloom”, and “Into the Light”.

Judges and speakers are being booked, and other Covid safe activities are being planned.

Interclubs coming up in 2021.

Keep working on those images during Covid, for 2021 Interclubs :- We will need Portraits, Monochrome, Black and White, and Unrestricted / open subject images.

If you have a monitor calibrator could you arrange to return it to me by Christmas so we can start 2021 a fresh. (Thanks, Rob)
Note from Sub-Editor - We think Rob means KPS calibrators, not units personally owned by KPS members.

For Sale
I have two Black Fuji X-T2 bodies for sale.
Both have minimal signs of wear and tear and both work perfectly and come with genuine Fuji batteries
If you have been thinking of getting into the Fuji world, now is your chance.

Perhaps you want a 2nd body or wish to upgrade from one of the lesser models.
Each body is priced at $800.00.

Also for sale is a handgrip for the X-T2, the MHG-XT2, priced at $75.00.

The handgrip not only provides a more comfortable holding experience but has an integrated Arca Swiss mount for rapid mounting to a suitable tripod head. This shows some wear on the bottom.

To finish off I also have a virtually unused 27mm F2.8 lens which I bought on impulse (but in retrospect, shouldn't have as I never used it seriously).  For sale at $200.00, new, these currently sell for $589.00

If you are interested, please get in touch.

KPS the club. FYI

How is 2021 looking. It is really hard to predict.

  1. We will most likely have our Australia Day get together at Lilydale Lake on Tuesday 26th January.

  2. We won't be having a City Walk in February as we normally do.

  3. We are unlikely to have in person meetings with 50+ members in the room, at least in the first few months of the year.

  4. If we can figure out how to do it, we will have our “National” night via zoom.

  5. We won't be having the 5th Wednesday movie nights in 2021.

  6. Our fees become due on the 1st January 2021.

  7. Fees for 2021 (Jan to Dec) remain the same as 2020.

How to pay your fees.

  1. The KPS software management system Virtual Pursuits (VP) will send you a reminder, early December.

  2. VP will later send you a second reminder.

  3. VP will send you yet another reminder.

  4. After 1st January, VP will give you a few days grace.

  5. You need to pay your fees via VP, you cannot just transfer money to KPS bank account, you cannot bring money around to the Treasurer’s house, no good going to the school, as it will be shut, simply pay on line via VP.

  6. When you pay before the due date, your membership will be renewed for a further 12 months.

  7. If you do not pay in time, VP will automatically lock you out, and you will need to re- apply for membership.

Using VP greatly reduces the workload on the Treasurer, Secretary, Membership Secretary, and Image Steward.

Hopefully 2021 will be better than 2020, hopefully we will be return to somewhere towards normal and still be safe.
