DUT SIGNS MOU WITH KZN DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONAL SERVICES

To form mutually beneficial partnerships as stipulated in its ENVISION 2030, Durban University of Technology (DUT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Correctional Services (DCS) in the Council Chambers at ML Sultan Campus on Tuesday, 10 November 2020. 

In the signing ceremony, DUT was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research, Innovation and Engagement, Professor Sibusiso Moyo meanwhile the KZN DCS was represented by Nelson Lukhele from the Development and Youth Centre, on behalf of the Acting Area Commissioner, DJ Makhaye.

DR NKONOANE IS AN HONORARY’GOLDEN KEY’ MEMBER

The Dean of Students at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), Dr Maditsane Nkonoane was nominated as an honorary ‘Golden Key’ member for recognition of not only his academic success but also his contributions to student success.   

Becoming part of the prestigious Golden Key Society, an internationally recognised, non-profit organisation affiliated with over 400 universities worldwide, is only granted through an honorary membership to a few individuals that epitomise the Golden Key’s values of engagement and overall excellence in their chosen field. Golden Key is South Africa’s first honour society and DUT is one of only two Universities of Technology’s (UoT’s) to be affiliated with the society.

RESEARCH OFFICE LAUNCHES THREE NEW PROGRAMMES

The Directorate for Research and Postgraduate Support (RPS) in partnership with the Technology, Transfer and Innovation (TTI) Office under the auspices of the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research, Innovation, and Engagement launched three new programmes that will be offered by the Research Office, via Microsoft Teams on Monday, 09 November 2020.

The newly introduced programmes are: DUT Social Innovation Lab (to strengthen DUT/Industry partnerships), Short Learning Program in Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Research Commercialization and Short Learning Programme focusing on Advances in Environmental Waste Management: Waste-to-Profit Project Development Strategies.

DUT’S FIVE DAY DATA DAY A SUCCESS

The Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) five-day virtual Data Day (D3) which discussed the importance of data, data infrastructure and inspiring change makers for a better society, concluded last Friday, 6 November 2020. 

Data presentations and discussions presented were all aligned to the four perspectives of DUT’s strategic plan, namely Stewardship, Systems and Processes, Sustainability and Society. 

On the final day of the online event a panel discussion was held by DUT senior executives on their evidence-led management practices.
