Autumn park scene

Dear AU Member...

Welcome to this week's eNews!

As we write the sun is shining, so we'll write this quickly before that changes! If the good weather does hold and you fancy getting out and about for a socially distanced walk, Suffolk Magazine have published an article outlining some of the best places to go and see some Autumn colour around the county, including the lovely picture of Christchurch Park in Ipswich above. You can view the rest of the article here.

If you do go out and about, why not send us a snap! We'd love to see what you're up to. Here's the news from our Inboxes to yours this week:

Living with and understanding personality disorders - online event

A virtual event designed to help people understand more about personality disorders and how to successfully live with them has been organised by Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT) in partnership with Healthwatch Suffolk, Suffolk Mind and Suffolk Family Carers.

The online event is being held on Thursday 26 November from 13:00 - 14:30, and will give patients, families, carers and healthcare professionals the chance to gain a greater insight into the condition and the help and support that's available. Everyone is welcome to attend and the live to the live event is here.

In The News

Pro Corda on the BBC!

Not one but two good news stories to share this weekend! Firstly, we were delighted to watch some of our AU members who attend musical theatre sessions at ProCorda being featured as part of BBC Morning Live's coverage of Children In Need, singing along with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra!
You can watch the clip here. A massive well done to all who participated. To find out more about Pro Corda, visit this page.

Athlete makes Ironman History

Secondly, we loved reading the story of Chris Nikic this week, who set a Guinness World Record by becoming the first person with Down's Syndrome to complete an Ironman triathalon. Chris completed a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-marathon run at the Ironman Florida competition last weekend. Read the full story and watch the moment Chris crossed the finish line here.

Chris and his Father set up the "1 percent better" challenge to raise awareness of Down's Syndrome, to encourage people to get "just 1% better" in something every day and to encourage sporting achievement in the special needs community. You can read more about it here.
We're feeling somewhat underachieving now after reading all that! That's all from us for this week. We're going to ponder what we can get 1% better at this weekend at over a cup of tea, and we wish you all a safe, healthy and happy week ahead.
