Yesterday, GCA welcomed Lt. Colonel Lynnette Hupman, U.S. Army Retired, who gave a Veterans Day presentation to all the classes. 
 
Classroom Treats
As birthdays and the holidays approach, we would like to say a few words about providing treats for your scholar’s classroom.  Please only send food that has been prepared in a commercial kitchen. (“store bought.”) We would prefer that treats be individually wrapped, but if this is not possible, they will be served by your scholar’s (gloved) teacher or educational assistant.  Thank you for helping us keep all of the scholars healthy and safe!
 
Grandparents Day - November 24th
An email was sent to all parents last week with information about participation in our virtual Grandparents Day.  If you would like us to email invitations to your scholar's grandparents, please provide email addresses through our website at: www.gracechristianacademy.org/grandparentsday
 
Thanksgiving 
Grace Christian Academy will be closed for Thanksgiving break from November 25th - 27th. We pray that all of our families will have a safe blessed holiday. The Fairfax County Health Department has offered some tips for celebrating safely on their website. 

Panda Express Fundraiser - Thank you!
Many thanks to all who participated in our Panda Express Virtual Fundraiser! We had people from across the country eating on behalf of Grace Christian Academy! The school raised $285.26 and the winner of our social media contest for ordering from the farthest distance is GCA alumna Irene Richardson all the way from Reno, Nevada! Winner, Winner, Kung Pao Chicken Dinner! 


 
11/14 Grace Leaf Raking Party @ 9 am
Come and help rake the leaves off of Grace’s properties just in time for the holidays! A “leaf raking party” will be held on Saturday, November 14, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Please bring your own rake and work gloves.
Getting Together While We are Apart
 
A word of thanks to all of you who have been able to come to the parent get-togethers after school. We hope you enjoyed spending time together. There are a few get-togethers left:
 
5th/6th Grade – Thursday, November 12, 3:30-4:30pm
7th/8th Grade – Friday, November 13, 3:30-4:30pm
3rd/4th Grade- Monday, November 16, 3:30-4:30pm (Rescheduled)
SAVE THE DATE! 
Our annual book fair will take place online this year. Orders can be placed between November 21st and December 4th. Books make great gifts for all the scholars in your life! Look for more details on our website and in upcoming newsletters.
 
The 3rd and 4th-grade scholars recently had the opportunity to learn more about Vicar David Young. Here are the highlights:
 
Charlie (3rd) and Phoenix (4th) both asked Have you ever had a job? I spent most of my college summers working in a sausage department at a family-owned chain of “Piggly Wiggly” grocery stores. Though it was rough working in freezing temperatures (rooms were about 30° F), I literally got to see ‘how the sausage is made.’
 
Anna (4th) asked: Why does Pastor Wattles wear a cross necklace during church and you don’t? In the past, wearing a cross around your neck signaled to others that you were a high-ranking member of the clergy, such as would an abbot, bishop or pope.  In our church, I imagine that it is a decorative choice of the Pastor.  I’ll probably wear a cross after I become a pastor. For now, my outfit (a white alb) works.
 
Lilly (4th) asked: What is your favorite food?  I really enjoy Tex-Mex food. Tex-Mex is a blend of both Mexican and southern U.S. cuisine. Such foods include seafood tacos, cheese enchiladas, and chili con carne (a soup with beef and real chilies). I like to make chicken enchiladas at home!

Ayer, en el día de los veteranos, nos visitó aquí en GCA nos visitó Lt. Colonel Lynnette Hupman, U.S. Army Retired, y dio una presentaciones a todas las clases.
 
Una cosa más
Se acercan los días festivos (Acción de Gracias, Navidad) y también muchos cumpleaños de los muchachos.  Queremos compartir algunas sugerencias si desean compartir meriendas, etc. con los demás compañeros del salón de clase de su hijo.  Pedimos que ustedes manden solamente comida comprada y empaquetada individualmente.  Al no ser posible, la comida será servida por el profesor o la asistente del salón (con guantes).  Gracias por su ayuda en mantener la salud y la seguridad de todos nuestros escolares.

Acción de Gracias
Grace Christian Academy estará cerrada para el día nacional de Acción de Gracias del 25-27 de noviembre.  Oramos que Dios bendiga a todas las familias en este tiempo libre con paz y seguridad.  El condado de Fairfax provee algunas sugerencias suyas aquí:   website.

Gracias a todos los que participaron el viernes pasado en la actividad pro-fondo de Panda Express.  Varios amigos nuestros de diferentes estados pidieron comida para apoyar a GCA, y como resultado el colegio recibió $285.26.  La ganadora de la competencia de ordenar desde el lugar más remoto fue una alumna de GCA:  Irene Richardson, de Reno, Nevada.  ¡Felicidades! 
 
11/14 La fiesta de otoño:  recoger hojas @ 9 am
¡Vengan!, todos los que puedan para ayudar a recoger las hojas en la propiedad de GCA—este sábado, comenzando a las 9:00am.  Recomendamos que todos traigan guantes y rastrillos.   Gracias.
 
 

Reunirnos a la distancia
 
También queremos expresar nuestra gratitud a los padres que se han reunidos informalmente durante las tardes.  Esperamos que hayan disfrutado ese tiempo agradable.  Todavía quedan algunas reuniones más.

Nuestra feria anual del libros se llevará a cabo en línea este año. Los pedidos se pueden realizar entre el 21 de noviembre y el 4 de diciembre. ¡Los libros son un buen regalo para todos los “escolares” en tu vida! Busquen más detalles en nuestro sitio web y en los próximos boletines.
Los escolares de los grados 3 y 4 tuvieron recientemente la oportunidad de conocer al Vicario David Young por medio de sus preguntas:  
 
Charlie (3º) y Phoenix (4º) le preguntaron: ¿Alguna vez tuvo un trabajo? Sí ─ Tuve un trabajo en la carnicería del supermercado que se llama Piggly Wiggly, confeccionando salchichas y chorizos. Fue duro trabajar en una cuarto refrigerado, pero me divertía mucho comiendo muestras gratis en el trabajo.

Anna (4º) preguntó: ¿Por qué los domingos el Pastor Wattles lleva un collar con una cruz, y Ud. no?  En años pasados, Anna, llevar una cruz por el cuello demostraba que tú eras un miembro de rango alto en la iglesia, como un obispo o papa. En nuestra iglesia, es un asunto de decoración para el pastor. Para mí, estoy contento llevar un alba hasta que llegue a ser pastor.
 
Lilly (4º) preguntó: ¿Cuál es su comida favorita? Pues, me encanta la comida hispana. Prefiero alimentos culturales como Tex-Mex; incluso tacos de mariscos, enchiladas de queso, y chili con carne. ¡Me gusta cocinar enchiladas en casa!  ¡Y luego comérmelas!
