Toronto to enter Red (Control) Level on Saturday

Dear Neighbour,

Last week, the Ontario Government released an updated COVID-19 framework which categorizes public health regions into five levels: Green-Prevent, Yellow-Protect, Orange-Restrict, Red-Control, and Lockdown being a measure of last and urgent resort. The Keeping Ontario Safe and Open Framework went into effect last Saturday in all regions of Ontario except Toronto.

The City of Toronto will enter this framework under the Control (Red) Zone this Saturday, November 14th, 2020 at 12:01AM.

The Chief Medical Officer of Toronto, Dr. Eileen De Villa has expressed her intention to implement further enhanced measures under Section 22 of the Health Protection and Promotion Act. To see the specific enhanced measures put forward by the City of Toronto, click here.

Remembrance Day Statement 2020

Yesterday was Remembrance Day.

Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to visit the Veterans Centre at Sunnybrook Hospital with the Premier, where we paid our respects to veterans who served our great nation - from a safe distance. Let's continue to remember those who paid the ultimate price for our freedoms and liberties that we have today. Lest we forget.

My second children's drawing contest ends this Sunday, November 15th, 2020. I've received a number of drawings that will be printed in my 2021 Calendar. For those young residents of Eglinton-Lawrence who want to send their drawings they have a few more days before the deadline will close.

You can submit original drawings by mail at 2882 Dufferin Street, Toronto, Ontario, M6B 3S6 or scan and send to robin.martinco@pc.ola.org. Please ensure that the contact information including the address and the artist's first name is sent in the mail.

HIGHLIGHTS
PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT

The Ontario Government is investing an additional $761 million to build and renovate 74 long-term care homes across the province, creating close to 11,000 safe, modern spaces sooner for residents to call home.
The Ontario Government is proposing to give municipalities the flexibility to target property tax relief to small businesses. The province is also considering to match almost $385 million to support small businesses in municipal and provincial tax relief.
Ontario is providing more than $600,000 to the Office of the Worker Adviser (OWA) and Office of the Employer Adviser (OEA) to help make it easier for workers and small businesses to navigate the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board's (WSIB) compensation system.
Yesterday, The Ontario Government unveiled a Memorial to Honour Canadian Heroes of the War in Afghanistan at Queen's Park.

HIGHLIGHTS
FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

The Federal Government announced $20 million in new funding to create a temporary Veterans Organizations Emergency Support Fund. This will provide financial support to Veterans organizations who have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, and who are in need of immediate support.
The Government proposed the new Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy to provide direct relief to businesses, non-profits, and charities that continue to be economically impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The new rent subsidy would be available retroactive to September 27, 2020, until June 2021.

HIGHLIGHTS
MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT

On November 14th, Toronto will be moved into the Red – Control level of the Province of Ontario’s. Given the current situation and epidemiology in Toronto,
the City of Toronto has invoked Section 22 of the Health Act setting additional health measures for Toronto.
The City of Toronto has formed a COVID-19 Immunization Task Force as part of its pandemic response and recovery efforts.
City of Toronto and Toronto Hydro have officially launched the new on-street electric vehicle (EV) charging station pilot across the city.
