Kindness Is a Choice
November 13, 2020

First, From the Heart

Today is World Kindness Day. What about tomorrow? And the day after that? Our ability to offer kindness to ourselves and to others is boundless, yet we need a day to remind us. Perhaps with desire and practice, we can make it our common way of being. Today, and every day, simply open your heart, and let your kindness shine.

Practice Matters

Kindness Binds Us

At the deepest level, we can feel aspects of our inner life reflected in every other human being. Kindness is at the core of our humanity. Kind thoughts, words, and actions feed the fire of love for all beings. The hardest challenge may be in speaking and acting kindly toward ourselves, given the persistent inner critic that can roar so loudly in our heads.

Practicing kindness is as simple as choosing kindness. We always have a choice about how to initiate or respond with kindness. Yes – overcoming the unkind reactionary impulse is hard. But if we pause, notice, and then create the intention to move with kindness, we can shift each new opportunity to be more loving to ourselves and others. Today and every day, choose to make small acts of kindness and generosity a priority. When we live in a frequency of kindness, harmony is not only possible, it is inevitable.

When can we practice? Always!
