Shalom to you all, friends, partners, and all who believe in the work to be accomplished in Jerusalem!

You’re receiving this first ever Jerusalem Seminary update because you’ve heard about the vision of a seminary in Jerusalem shared over the years by way of JBSS (or through your connection with Brian (Baruch) Kvasnica and his work with JCBT and Shevet Achim. Brian isn’t alone in this endeavour and Shoshi has been at the heart of organizing JS legally and financially in Israel all the while juggling life at home with seven children! We hope that you’d be interested in continuing to hear about Jerusalem Seminary becoming established and the ministry training that has already begun!
Much is unfolding these days at Jerusalem Seminary. Through trying times full of lockdowns, ever-changing regulations, and political roller coaster, God has been faithful to further the work and ministry of JS.  We have a very exciting announcement: the legal establishment not only of Jerusalem Seminary in the U.S. as a nonprofit organization but last month also in Israel!  We invite you to visit JS’ new website: jerusalemseminary.org as well as JS’ new Youtube channel.  And thankfully God has provided (pictured) wonderful facilities for Jerusalem Seminary in the heart of Jerusalem!  Here we have envisioned one seminary with three schools.

The JS Team is expanding and we invite you to check out and pray for the growing JS Staff, Faculty and Advisory Board. We are aware how much we need God’s guidance and wisdom, and also others to join the vision.  If you (or someone you know) have skills related to either academics, administration, media and technology, or human resources, and most of all a heart for the Lord, we’d love to hear from you!

Praise the Lord, our first pilot online course - in Immersive Biblical Hebrew - began this past summer!  We hope one or more additional pilot courses will start in March 2021.  All of this is helping us prepare for a planned inauguration and dedication of Jerusalem Seminary on September 6, 2021 on the Feast of Trumpets.  We hope you can celebrate with us either virtually or even physically!  In May 2021 we plan to have a month-long course in Israel and in the fall of 2021 to have residential semester students.  Please join us in prayer for these developments!  (And for me [BK] to finish writing my PhD well before then.  I’ve written about 50 pages on “Walking as a Hebraic Metaphor in First Century Greek” and my PhD committee at Hebrew U. is affirming.  Thanks be to God!)

The  wheels have been turning fast at JS’ School of Hebrew: Hebrew for the Nations. Thanks to Zoom we were able to finish our third six-month Biblical Hebrew teacher’s course for 15 Israelis--providing vital skills to train others around the world. Lockdowns were lifted just in time for a celebratory graduation.

Despite the travel restrictions in September, we were able to send two of these recent graduates (pictured) out to Togo! It was an amazing window between two Israeli pandemic lockdowns that allowed our newly trained teachers to carry out a three-week intensive course teaching Biblical Hebrew in the immersion method. 18 Togolese students were not only able to begin to read, but also began to speak Biblical Hebrew! We are currently working to provide similar courses in Mexico, Myanmar and Kenya in 2021.

Recently, we have begun filming “Biblical Hebrew on Location” with Biblical Hebrew passages read and discussed in spoken Biblical Hebrew where it happened! These short films will be great tools to seamlessly learn both spoken Biblical Hebrew and Biblical Geography. We learned a lot from the first day of filming which centered around David’s fight with Goliath in the Elah Valley and the streambed from which David gathered stones. We are planning to “gear up” with more staff and technology for further filming.

With so much going on we see it as a joyful privilege to encourage you, our friends and partners with updates for prayer and relationship building. We thank God for each of you and treasure the opportunity to keep in touch. Feel free to let us know about what is happening in your life. We’d love to hear from you!

Visit the “What’s New” page on our website for a three-part series about the September course in Togo, as well as other articles and updates.  In the coming weeks, we will be announcing the 2021 courses so please check in with us!

Grace and peace from Jerusalem!

And many nations will come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and He will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in His paths: for Instruction shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. Micah 4:2
