December 2020

Highgate Society online programme of meetings

While  social distancing rules make live meetings impractical, the Society is continuing its online programme of talks and other events with 'attendance' using the Zoom app. When each meeting is announced, a link to the Eventbrite booking site will be published via a mailshot or on the Society's web site. Anyone registering will be sent a link to the Zoom meeting in the confirmation email, to be used at the advertised time.

Meetings start at 7.30 pm (unless otherwise stated). Please join a few minutes before so that the meeting can start on time and is not interrupted by late joiners.

During the booking process in Eventbrite you will be invited to make a donation to the Highgate Society. Closure of the hall has resulted in the Society losing a large proportion of its income and a small contribution will help to keep its activities going.

Highgate Society gives evidence on Planning White Paper

On November 26th, the Society was one of 50 people and groups selected, out of 1,500 applicants, to give evidence on the Planning White Paper to a House of Commons Select Committee inquiry into its implications. We were given full opportunity to make our points, and we highlighted the concerns of the community sector as strongly as we could. The Society had previously submitted a detailed 19-page response to the Government's consultation on the White Paper, the proposals in which would fatally weaken Planning in England, make development much easier, and make permissions automatic under certain circumstances. For more details and to access the full text of the submission visit the Highgate Society web site (click here)
