COVID-19 POLICIES REMINDER

As a number of students, teachers, and staff are out of class, we know this raises questions for families. We want to assure you that we are being cautious and following CDC and Georgia Department of Health guidelines, which means anyone who has had direct exposure to someone with COVID-19 is asked to remain at home for a period of time. We continue to monitor daily the indicators recommended by the CDC to determine if any changes are needed in our protocols or mode of operation. If any changes are made we will communicate those right away.

Potential COVID exposure: When there is a positive case we will notify families if their child has been exposed. When a student tests positive for COVID-19, we partner with local health agencies to complete contact tracing and notify impacted students and their families. Our goal is to be as transparent as is necessary to keep our school and community safe, while also protecting the privacy of impacted students. Please be reminded of a few definitions:

Direct contact: a direct contact is anyone who has been within 6 feet of the positive case for longer than 15 minutes in a 24-hour period. Parents of students identified as direct contacts will receive a phone call explaining their child’s exposure, and these students will be required to quarantine for 14 days.

Indirect contact: an indirect contact is anyone who has been in the same classroom or in an extracurricular activity with a student who tests positive but has not been within 6 feet of the individual for more than 15 minutes during a 24 hour period. Parents of students identified as indirect contacts will receive an email asking that they exercise increased vigilance in monitoring their child for COVID-19 symptoms. Indirect contacts are not required to quarantine.

Household COVID testing: If anyone in your household is awaiting test results because they are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, all students in that household are required to stay home. For example, if a parent is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms and is waiting on COVID-19 test results, his or her children should not attend school. If a student is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms and is waiting on COVID-19 test results, his or her siblings should not attend school.

We have been blessed as a community with a very limited amount of cases to this point.  As a school, we are remaining diligent in our adherence to the Department of Public Health and CDC guidelines in and out of the classroom. We encourage our families to continue taking safety precautions at home, especially during school breaks when people are moving around more and the risk of exposure may be higher.

PROTOCOLS FOR REMOTE LEARNING

We continue to build intentional practices in our classroom where possible to engage both the virtual and in-person learners. To best move forward with our remote learning approach, please review the information below.

Remote Learning Protocols:

  • Students who are experiencing COVID-19 related symptoms or who have been asked by the school to follow the health and safety protocols established in response to the current pandemic may use remote learning.
  • Students whose parents have made the judgment that attending school is not appropriate at this time due to COVID-19 concerns, that are not related to the school mandated requests, may also use remote learning. In this case, the decision to move to remote learning will be in two week increments.
  • The division principal, in consultation with the assistant head of academic affairs, may determine that a student who is out for an extended time for reasons unrelated to COVID-19 may access remote learning.
  • Remote learning is not for general or short-term absences from school for reasons unrelated to COVID-19.

MASK REMINDER
As we all seek to partner together and build a healthy and safe school environment, we encourage parents to please ensure that their children come to school with multiple masks and a refillable water bottle. The Middle School and Upper School are now equipped with touchless water dispensers. Beginning next week, Middle and Upper School students who forget a mask will be asked to call home prior to receiving an extra mask from the front desk. Currently, we are handing out dozens of masks per day, as well as dozens of small, plastic water bottles per day. This pace is not sustainable. We appreciate your partnership in helping your child form these healthy and environmentally-friendly habits.

VETERANS DAY PRESENTATION AVAILABLE

While students, parents, and veterans were not able to physically gather this year, Whitefield's 2020 Veterans Day presentation was a beautiful tribute to all the incredible men and women who have served or are serving in our armed forces. NIGHT OF WORSHIP

Thank you to everyone who worked hard to make Whitefield's Night of Worship such a special time of physically distanced gathering! With families spread out on the field, on the track, in the stands, and in their cars, hundreds safely came together as the Whitefield community to praise our Lord and remember His faithfulness. A big shout-out to Special Events Manager Lindsey McClellan and Director of Spiritual Life Allison Duncanson for coordinating this sepcial event. SPOTLIGHT ON THE ARTS: LIVE PRODUCTION
Under the instruction of Dr. Nai Brooks, Whitefield's Live Production classes are developing introductory skills in audio and video production, theatrical lighting, and technology, as well as stage management. Live Production is providing campus-wide support in these areas for Whitefield meetings, events, chapels, athletics, and student government. The team is currently gearing up for the Upper School Theater’s production of Matilda by Roald Dahl, in which all of the technical aspects of the show will be run by Live Production students. This course is expanding and has evolved from a Pass/Fail session into a graded elective that provides meaningful learning opportunities in addition to constructive feedback and experiences.
