The votes are in...and this year wins as one of the most challenging on record. And while our work continues to overcome these challenges, I am filled with pride at the record voter turnout and civic engagement of last week’s election. I am grateful to Los Angeles voters who overwhelmingly approved Measure RR, LA Unified’s School Upgrades and Safety Measure. I am hopeful that new leadership in the White House will bring more federal resources to support the needs of our school communities—in times of crisis and beyond.
This election might be over, but our advocacy on behalf of our kids’ future is far from finished. Progress takes hard work and steadfast commitment, and we are in it for the long haul—from Los Angeles all the way to our nation’s capital.
I'll be participating in a virtual conversation about the ways that the COVID-19 crisis has exacerbated inequities in our education system, and what we can do to help bridge the gap. Click here to register!
We are holding regular virtual town halls to continue engaging with our school communities even while social distancing. If you missed our Reopening Town Hall with Supt. Beutner this week, you can still watch it and all our past events on Facebook or our website.
For as long as it takes to safely welcome our school communities back onto our campuses, I will continue to meet with parents, school staff, and stakeholders whenever and however possible. That included delivering donuts to the wonderful poll workers at every BD4 school site voting center on Election Day, along with several virtual parent meetings, town halls, and socially distant school visits!
Thank you to everyone who participated in our virtual Halloween costume contest! We were blown away by everyone's imagination and effort. Congrats to our winners: Camila from Bancroft MS, Sawyer from Van Ness ES, and Gracie from Playa Del Rey ES!
