Congratulations to all of our
Student of the Month winners for October!
The October Early Childhood Education Student of the Month is Melanie Galvan. She is a junior at Rochelle High School. Melanie has really impressed me with her strong start with the preschoolers. She has put significant effort into her activity planning, one of which included reading an English/Spanish book aloud and teaching them some Spanish words. Melanie’s interactions with the preschoolers are also strong. She is clearly committed to this class and working with the preschoolers.
The October Sports Medicine Student of the Month is Emilee Mendez. She is a Junior at DeKalb High School and has done an excellent job navigating the craziness of DeKalb's schedule. She has been in attendance at every class and went above and beyond to switch herself to a class where she could get "hands on experience". Emilee is a quiet force in the classroom and I am enjoying seeing her emerging personality. Emilee has expressed interest in becoming an Athletic Trainer when she graduates. I love seeing her interest and excitement in her future profession.
The October CIS Student of the Month is Sam Villalobos. He is a senior at Rochelle High School and has contributed to our class in several ways this semester. Helping with our class project, asking pertinent questions/comments to our daily discussions, and offering suggestions to our remote/hybrid class model.


The October Criminal Justice Student of the Month is Grace Kelly. Grace is a Junior at Sycamore High School and is an outstanding student that always puts forth her best effort. She has great participation and attendance.  When physical attendance is not possible, she is always on-line. Grace is a pleasure to have in class.

The October CNA Student of the Month is Abbie England. Abbie is a senior from Sycamore High School in our CNA program at KEC.  She is actively engaged in class and seeks out new opportunities to learn.  It is easy to see through her actions that she has a passion to care for others.


The October Medical Terminology Student of the Month is Abigail Taylor. She is a senior at Dekalb High School and has done an unbelievable job making KEC a priority. Abigail has had to, at many times, log into and out of our Google Meets to attend other classes. Yet, she still completes her assignments and has done a great job with her examinations. Abigail would like to complete a degree in Nursing when she graduates. I have no doubt she will do an excellent job.

Our CNA students had a productive and fun day learning how to position patients during their weekly skills day. These skills days allow the students to learn the hands on skills that are required for the completion of the course.

Our Criminal Justice students partnering with our CNA students for CPR certification, lead by
Mr. Perez (EMT-B) in this cross curricular activity.
Our CNA students were able to have an opportunity to use some of the simulators while doing skills last week. One student attempted to get off the floor in the obesity suit, another had the geriatric simulator on. Ellis and Richard (our two mannequins) were put into new outfits and are hand in hand for the day. Last, one of the gentleman in the class was a good sport and got his nails done for practicing our nail care skill.

Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place on:

Monday, December 21: 12:45pm - 7:00pm
Tuesday, December 22: 8:00am - 12:00pm

Parent-Teacher conferences are the perfect time for you to talk with your student’s teacher to share their strengths and areas needing improvement.  

During your parent-teacher conference you can:

  •  Look at your student's work samples.
  •  Discuss your student's progress

(whether they are meeting standards, strengths, areas needing improvement).

  •  Discuss how you can support learning at home.
  •  Discuss how you can support learning at school.
  •  Ask questions.
